In this interview with GQ<\/a><\/strong>, Billy Ray Cyrus talks at length \u2014 and with candor \u2014 about some of the bad choices he made, and their impact on his family (particularly his famous daughter Miley) and their faith:<\/p>\n

\u201cSomewhere along this journey,\u201d he says, \u201cboth mine and Miley\u2019s faith has been shaken. That saddens me the most.\u201d When they first came to Hollywood for Hannah Montana<\/em>, the two of them would drive down the freeway together to the studio each morning, and every day Miley would point out the sign that said<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Just before moving out to Los Angeles, the whole family had been baptized together by their pastor at the People\u2019s Church in Franklin, Tennessee. \u201cIt was (estranged wife) Tish\u2019s idea,\u201d he remembers. \u201cShe said, \u2018We\u2019re going to be under attack, and we have to be strong in our faith and we\u2019re all going to be baptized\u2026'\u201d And there, driving to work each day in the City of Angels, was this sign. \u201cA physical sign. It could have easily said \u2018You will now be attacked by Satan.\u2019 \u2018Entering this industry, you are now on the highway to darkness\u2026'\u201d<\/p>\n

Do you really see it in such clearly spiritual terms\u2014that your family was under attack by Satan?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI think we are right now. No doubt. There\u2019s no doubt about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

And why is that happening?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the way it is. There has always been a battle between good and evil. Always will be. You think, \u2018This is a chance to make family entertainment, bring families together\u2026\u2019 and look what it\u2019s turned into.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah Montana probably has brought a lot of families together\u2014just not one\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cYeah. I know. I know. I know.\u201d<\/p>\n

And do you see the show as a big part of what has made things not work in your family?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cOh, it\u2019s huge\u2014it destroyed my family. I\u2019ll tell you right now\u2014the damn show destroyed my family. And I sit there and go, \u2018Yeah, you know what? Some gave all.\u2019 It is my motto, and guess what? I have to eat that one. I some-gave-all\u2019d it all right. I some-gave-all\u2019d it while everybody else was going to the bank. It\u2019s all sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Do you wish <\/em>Hannah Montana had never happened?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI hate to say it, but yes, I do. Yeah. I\u2019d take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I\u2019d erase it all in a second if I could.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
