The Knights of Columbus \u2013 the world\u2019s largest Catholic fraternal group \u2013 is asking its members and all Catholics to pray\u00a0daily\u00a0for the pope and the church in anticipation of Pope Benedict XVI\u2019s retirement and the election of a new pope.<\/p>\n
The Knights\u2019 campaign comes at a time when Pope Benedict XVI has publicly asked for prayers for himself, his successor and the church. During the papal audience on Wednesday of\u00a0this week, the Holy Father\u00a0said: \u201cContinue to pray for me, for the church, and for the future pope.\u201d He also thanked all those who have kept him in their prayers.<\/p>\n
The Knights are asking people to record their pledge to pray at<\/p>\n

The names of those who have made the pledge online will be brought to the Installation Mass for the new pope. In addition, physical prayer cards are available from the Knights of Columbus for use by parishes, schools or local Knights of Columbus councils. Cards can be ordered by calling\u00a0(203) 752-4483<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0or by emailing\u00a0<\/span>communications@kofc.org<\/span> <\/span><\/a><\/p>\n
The Knights are also encouraging people to send their prayerful support to Pope Benedict XVI directly by tweeting \u201cI am praying for you\u201d and the hashtag #prayerforthechurch to the pope\u2019s twitter account @pontifex<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The prayer, written by Knights of Columbus Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore, reads:<\/span><\/p>\n
\n\u201cO Lord Jesus Christ , Supreme Pastor of Your Church,
\nwe thank you for the ministry of Pope Benedict XVI
\nand the selfless care with which he has led us
\nas Successor of Peter, and Your Vicar on earth.<\/span><\/p>\nGood Shepherd, who founded Your Church
