The Archbishop of New York \u2014 and President of the USCCB \u2014 will be visiting Albany next month with several other bishops from around the state. \u00a0And the governor doesn\u2019t have time to meet with him.<\/p>\n

Apparently stung by a\u00a0Vatican<\/a> adviser\u2019s slap at his lifestyle, Gov. Cuomo has declared a holy war with the Catholic Church \u2013 saying he\u2019s too busy to meet the state\u2019s bishops here next week.<\/p>\n

The Catholic governor, recently roasted over his live-in girlfriend, declared his schedule too crowded to squeeze in\u00a0Archbishop Timothy Dolan<\/a> and the other prelates.<\/p>\n

The group arrives here next week for the state\u2019s annual Catholic Conference \u2013 and historically meets with the governor to discuss a variety of issues.<\/p>\n

Conference officials said they reached out to Cuomo about a month ago and got word only Wednesday that he couldn\u2019t make it.<\/p>\n

Only disgraced ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer<\/a> has skipped the get-together, not wanting to meet with the religious leaders on the same day his 2008 hooker scandal exploded.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is the only time in recent history that there hasn\u2019t been a meeting,\u201d said Catholic Conference spokesman\u00a0Dennis Poust<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Poust said more than a dozen bishops will be attending, including\u00a0Nicholas DiMarzio<\/a> from\u00a0Brooklyn<\/a> and\u00a0William Murphy<\/a> from\u00a0Rockville Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They anticipated meeting with Cuomo to discuss state funding for education, gay marriage and the Reproductive Health Act \u2013 the latter two are opposed by the bishops.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is always a good exchange of positions,\u201d Poust said. \u201cWe always welcome the opportunity to present our views.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if the bishops were upset by Cuomo\u2019s religious rebuff, Poust replied, \u201cI am sure the governor is very busy, so we will take him at his word.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
