After New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan\u00a0appeared to suggest\u00a0<\/a>during a radio interview this week that he may not view pro-abortion Governor Andrew Cuomo as a Catholic \u201cin good standing,\u201d the archdiocese has issued a statement saying that this is not the case, and that Dolan\u2019s remark was misunderstood.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u201cCardinal Dolan would not, and did not, suggest the governor might not be a Catholic in good standing going forward,\u201d archdiocesan spokesman Joseph Zwilling said in a statement originally sent to the\u00a0New York Times<\/em>, and forwarded to LifeSiteNews.<\/p>\n

Dolan made the remark during a discussion about Gov. Cuomo\u2019s intention to propose a law to make abortion less regulated and more accessible. Cuomo announced the initiative during his\u00a0State of the State address<\/a>\u00a0in January, in which he pledged to \u201cprotect a woman\u2019s freedom of choice\u201d by enacting a \u201cReproductive Health Act.\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor added, repeating three times, \u201cBecause it is her body, it is her choice. Because it\u2019s her body, it\u2019s her choice. Because it\u2019s her body, it\u2019s her choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

During this week\u2019s\u00a0radio interview,<\/a>\u00a0the host of the show, Fred Dicker, asked Cardinal Dolan how Cuomo \u201ccould be a leader on an issue that the Church fundamentally feels so strongly about,\u201d namely abortion, and \u201cstill be considered a Catholic in good standing?\u201d<\/p>\n
