{"id":23302,"date":"2013-05-23T22:56:36","date_gmt":"2013-05-24T02:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/deaconsbench\/?p=23302"},"modified":"2016-09-30T16:51:34","modified_gmt":"2016-09-30T20:51:34","slug":"british-study-nearly-all-unmarried-couples-with-children-break-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/deaconsbench\/2013\/05\/british-study-nearly-all-unmarried-couples-with-children-break-up\/","title":{"rendered":"British Study: Nearly All Unmarried Couples With Children Break Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/56\/2013\/05\/wedding-rings_2474462b.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-23303\" title=\"wedding-rings_2474462b\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/56\/2013\/05\/wedding-rings_2474462b-575x358.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"575\" height=\"358\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/women\/mother-tongue\/10074614\/Almost-no-couples-with-children-who-stay-unmarried-stay-together-study-claims.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Details:<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A study by the Marriage Foundation calculates that cohabiting couples who have children are more than twice as likely to split up as those who had tied the knot beforehand.<\/p>\n<p>But of those who do not then go on to get married after having children, only a handful will still be together by the time the child is 16, it claims.<\/p>\n<p>And it predicts that half of children born today will have been through a family break-up by the time they are 16.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation, set up by the High Court judge Sir Paul Coleridge, said that the findings show that the idea of being \u201chappily unmarried\u201d is a myth.<\/p>\n<p>And it accused the Government of being fixated with trying to \u201cairbrush\u201d the importance of traditional marriage out of discussion about family break-up, with an emphasis on \u201clong term stable relationships\u201d instead.<\/p>\n<p>The report, which analyses figures from the Office for National Statistics, found that 93 per cent of couples whose relationships are still intact by the time their child is a teenager are married.<\/p>\n<p>It calculated that out of a typical group of 100 16-year-olds, 45 of them would have experienced a family split, while 55 would still be living with both parents.<\/p>\n<p>But only four of the 100 teenagers would have unmarried parents who are still together by the time they are 16.<\/p>\n<p>It compares the findings with those from the 2001 census and calculates that the likelihood of married and couples breaking up is largely unchanged in the last decade.<\/p>\n<p>But because fewer couples now get married family break-up has nevertheless become more common, it concludes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/women\/mother-tongue\/10074614\/Almost-no-couples-with-children-who-stay-unmarried-stay-together-study-claims.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Read more.\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Details: A study by the Marriage Foundation calculates that cohabiting couples who have children are more than twice as likely to split up as those who had tied the knot beforehand.
