Giant\u2019s cornerback Prince Amukamara is being compared to Tim Tebow as more people take notice of his religious convictions.<\/p>\n

Amukamara has been seen praying on the field, but it\u2019s his off-the-field that also has people talking. For example, the 24-year-old footballer is a virgin and is not ashamed of the fact. \u201cYeah, some people call me the black Tim Tebow,\u201d he told Muscle and Fitness magazine in 2011. \u201cI am a virgin,\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019m not ashamed to say that.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a bit surprising considering that we afford athletes the status of icons and pretty much expect them to engage in immoral sexual behavior.<\/p>\n

Amukamara however, is also engaged to be married. He met his fianc\u00e9e at a dance where he was attending with some friends, but not drinking. His friends had to encourage him to talk to her, but he couldn\u2019t muster the courage. Later in the evening, Amukamara recounts she came by him and struck up a conversation. He asked for her email address and the rest is history.<\/p>\n

As for drinking, he told his fianc\u00e9e he\u2019ll probably have his first drink at his bachelor party.<\/p>\n

Amukamara says he was raised Catholic, and it\u2019s from that upbringing that his strong Christian convictions and devotion o God flows.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The New York Post<\/a> <\/strong>has some reaction to all this:<\/p>\n

Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara\u2019s teammates didn\u2019t know that he wears a chastity belt underneath his jockstrap \u2014 and they\u2019re all supporting him.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I first heard it, I was like, \u2018Wow,\u2019\u2009\u201d cornerback Jayron Hosley told The Post Thursday of the 24-year-old\u2019s vow to stay a virgin until marriage.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut everyone comes from different places. Nobody\u2019s the same. You can\u2019t expect that coming into a locker room.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s doing it for a reason, for something that he believes in, that he feels is right for him. I respect that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The devoutly religious Amukamara made headlines this week when he told Muscle & Fitness magazine he doesn\u2019t drink and hasn\u2019t had sex, earning him the nickname \u201cthe black Tebow\u201d from peers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s more guys out there like that than you think,\u201d Hosley said. \u201cNegative publicity seems to get the headlines, but there\u2019s a lot of good guys out here doing a lot of great things.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m the type of guy, you do what works for you,\u201d said safety Ryan Mundy.<\/p>\n
