Walmart, not content with just\u00a0offending parents and Catholics<\/a><\/strong>, was until recently also doing its best to offend 9\/11 victims (which, frankly, is every American) and Sikhs.<\/p>\n

Under pressure from the Sikh community, Walmart on Friday pulled a turban-themed costume from its website that the Sikh Coalition has said is offensive to 9\/11 victims and perpetuates \u201cnegative stereotypes about turbans and beards that have led to violence and discrimination against Sikhs and other minorities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Sikh advocacy organization sent letters or made phone calls to several retailers selling the item to request its removal.\u00a0Amazon.com<\/a>\u00a0listed the costume as \u201cFun World Adult Mens Osama Bin Laden Middle East Costume Turban + Beard,\u201d while\u00a0Walmart<\/a>\u00a0described it as \u201cTurban Beard Adult Halloween Instant Costume.\u201d<\/p>\n

The costume appears to be\u00a0manufactured by Fun World Costumes<\/a>, and is for sale on the sites of retailers such as\u00a0Sears<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Rite Aid<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n

Rajdeep Singh, Director of Law and Policy at The Sikh Coalition, told The Huffington Post, \u201cIf you lost a loved one during the 9\/11 attacks or during our nation\u2019s war against Al Qaeda, or if someone attacked your father in a hate crime because he wears a turban, I doubt this costume would make you comfortable.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

UPDATE: <\/strong>On Friday\u00a0Walmart also stopped selling the \u201cnaughty leopard\u201d costume<\/a> <\/strong>for children:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was never our intention to offend anyone and we apologize to any customers who may have been offended by the name of the costume,\u201d a Walmart spokesperson told KATU.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t the costume itself that parents and bloggers found offensive. In fact, there wasn\u2019t anything sexy about the cute fuchsia and black outfit, which didn\u2019t look very leopard-like to begin with. What they didn\u2019t like was use of the word \u201cnaughty\u201d to describe a costume for little girls.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
