One more unexpected twist<\/a><\/strong> to a story that made headlines last month:<\/p>\n The wife of former U.S. Senate Republican nominee Roy Moore has revealed the identity of the Moores\u2019 \u201cJewish attorney\u201d she mentioned in a Dec. 11 speech.<\/p>\n It\u2019s not the person everyone speculated that it was, Kayla Moore said. Several publications, including the Jewish publication\u00a0Forward<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Washington Examiner<\/a>, have claimed that the attorney she was referring to was Richard Jaffe, a Jewish attorney who represented Roy and Kayla\u2019s son, Caleb Moore, in a case several years ago.<\/p>\n Jaffe,\u00a0in an interview with AL.com<\/a>, had said he wasn\u2019t sure he was the attorney she was referring to, and that he had never handled cases for Roy Moore, only his son. Jaffe said he was offended by Kayla Moore\u2019s reference to a Jewish attorney.<\/p>\n Kayla Moore today explained why she made that reference.<\/p>\n \u201cWe read where we were against Jews \u2013 even calling us Nazis,\u201d she wrote in an email to AL.com. \u201cWe have a Jewish lawyer working for us in our firm \u2013 Martin Wishnatsky. Judge hired him while Chief Justice, then I hired him at the Foundation.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n But there\u2019s more:<\/p>\n Wishnatsky, 73, said that he was born July 13, 1944, grew up in Asbury Park, N.J., attended Hebrew school at a Conservative synagogue and went through a bar mitzvah, but he considered his family secular, ethnic Jews, who were not very religious.<\/p>\n \u201cMy background is 100 percent Jewish,\u201d he said. \u201cMy grandparents immigrated from Eastern Europe, and came through Ellis Island. My parents were born in Brooklyn during World War I. There were no manifestations of faith; we were Jewish, that\u2019s why we went to synagogue and not a church. It was just an ethnic characteristic.\u201d<\/p>\n But Wishnatsky said he accepted Christ in his thirties. \u201cI had an experience of the reality of God at 33,\u201d Wishnatsky said. \u201cI knew God was real but I wasn\u2019t sure who he was.\u201d<\/p>\n He became a Mormon first, then later became an evangelical Protestant Christian.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Read it all.\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
