Last week, I posted on the ordination of deacons in Richmond<\/a>.<\/strong> \u00a0Here, some highlights of the bishop\u2019s message, from the Catholic Virginian:<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

In his exuberance of welcoming 19 men who were presenting themselves to be ordained deacons for the Diocese of Richmond, Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo compared them to \u201csuperheroes\u201d comic strip lore and early TV.<\/p>\n

Among those he mentioned was Superman, alias Clark Kent, who fought for \u201cTruth, Justice and the American Way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others included Steve Rogers and, \u201cLet\u2019s not forget, ladies, Wonder Woman,\u201d Bishop DiLorenzo said.<\/p>\n

The bishop made his remarks during the homily at the ordination liturgy, Oct. 19, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cDare I suggest that there are elements of a superhero among those of you who are presenting yourself today?\u201d the bishop asked rhetorically.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve got to be a special kind of person,\u201d he said. \u201cYou are willing to get out there and present yourself as a servant leader.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou certainly are intelligent and you are role models,\u201d Bishop DiLorenzo continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung people look at you and the very fact that you are a public person makes you\u2014in their eyes\u2014a curiosity.\u201d<\/p>\n

While acknowledging that the new deacons have goals for their future, he encouraged them to pursue one in particular.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s to be first and foremost in a deep relationship with Jesus Christ,\u201d Bishop DiLorenzo said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
