Rutgers University in Camden will host a woman theologian next week whom the university describes as a \u201cfemale Catholic bishop.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u201cRoman Catholic Bishop Patricia Fresen, one of only three ordained female bishops in the world,\u201d will lecture at the university at 12:20 p.m. April 15, according to a Rutgers news release.<\/p>\n

Fresen was excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church in 2008, according to\u00a0www.CatholicCulture.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cPatricia Fresen is not a Roman Catholic bishop. That would be the position of the Diocese of Camden,\u201d said Peter Feuerherd, diocesan spokesman, on Monday when contacted about Rutgers\u2019 symposium.<\/p>\n

The lecture is being sponsored by Rutgers-Camden\u2019s department of philosophy and religion and the gender and women\u2019s studies program.<\/p>\n

The university holds monthly symposiums at which sometimes controversial topics are discussed, said John Wall, an associate professor of religion.<\/p>\n

A colleague of his had heard that Fresen would be in the Philadelphia area for another talk, \u201cso we invited her,\u201d he said. \u201cFortunately, she agreed to come.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
