Some background:<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Regina C\u00e6li<\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0Regina C\u0153li<\/b>\u00a0(\u201cQueen of Heaven<\/a>\u201c)\u00a0is an ancient Latin\u00a0Marian Hymn<\/a>\u00a0of the Christian Church.<\/p>\n
It is one of the four seasonal\u00a0Marian antiphons<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0Blessed Virgin Mary<\/a>, prescribed to be sung or recited in the\u00a0Liturgy of the Hours<\/a>\u00a0at the conclusion of the last of the hours to be prayed in common that day, typically night prayer (Compline<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0Vespers<\/a>). Any one of these four or of other suitable antiphons may now be sung at any time of the liturgical year. The\u00a0Regina Coeli<\/i>\u00a0is sung or recited in place of the\u00a0Angelus<\/a><\/i>\u00a0during the\u00a0Easter season<\/a>, from\u00a0Easter Sunday<\/a>\u00a0until\u00a0Pentecost<\/a>.<\/p>\n
\u2026While the authorship of the\u00a0Regina Caeli<\/i>\u00a0is unknown, the hymn has been traced back to the 12th century. It was in\u00a0Franciscan<\/a>\u00a0use, after Compline, in the first half of the following century. According to Catholic Tradition\u00a0St Gregory the Great<\/a>\u00a0heard angels chanting the first three lines one\u00a0Easter<\/a>\u00a0morning in Rome, while following barefoot in a great religious procession of the icon of the Virgin painted by\u00a0Luke the Evangelist<\/a>. He was thereupon inspired to add the fourth line.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
