<\/iframe><\/p>\nArchbishop Coleridge also spoke at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnews.com\/services\/englishnews\/2019\/archbishop-coleridge-copernican-revolution-needed-to-tackle-abuse.cfm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the closing Mass<\/a><\/strong> of the weekend\u2019s summit:<\/p>\n<blockquote>The Catholic Church needs a true conversion that places survivors, and not the institution, as the focus of its concern as it enacts measures to combat the sexual abuse of minors and vulnerable people, said Australian Archbishop Mark Coleridge of Brisbane.<\/p>\nLike Nicolaus Copernicus\u2019 discovery that the earth revolves around the sun, the church is need of a \u201cCopernican revolution\u201d where \u201cthose who have been abused do not revolve around the church but the church around them,\u201d Archbishop Coleridge said in his homily Feb. 24 during the closing Mass of the Vatican summit on child protection.<\/p>\n\u201cIn discovering this, we can begin to see with their eyes and to hear with their ears; and once we do that, the world and the church begin to look quite different,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is the necessary conversion, the true revolution and the great grace which can open for the church a new season of mission.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"From the BBC\u2019s Martin Bashir, check out this brief but potent interview with the Archbishop of Brisbane, Mark Coleridge.
