<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/2019\/05\/whether-youre-pissed-or-dgaf-burger-king-has-a-whopper-for-you\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Details:<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One of the only truly astonishing spectacles left to witness in this world is just how desperate brands are willing to get in order to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/2019\/04\/walmart-will-add-more-robots-to-its-stores-but-what-does-that-mean-for-human-employees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-gtm-vis-first-on-screen-460147_156=\"5894\" data-gtm-vis-total-visible-time-460147_156=\"100\" data-gtm-vis-has-fired-460147_156=\"1\" class=\" decorated-link\">capture your attention<\/a>. And it\u2019s really annoying when it works. This week, Burger King announced\u2014to much brouhaha\u2014that it will begin rolling out \u201cReal Meals\u201d in big U.S. cities as part of a collaboration with the organization Mental Health America.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_298097\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-298097\" style=\"width: 575px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/56\/2019\/05\/105887506-1556791923270moodymeal_launch-gray_4.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-298097\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/56\/2019\/05\/105887506-1556791923270moodymeal_launch-gray_4-575x390.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"575\" height=\"390\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-298097\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Burger King<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Real Meals feature five different boxes customers can choose from when they order a Whopper meal, which nominally correspond to different moods. The five official Burger King moods are as follows: Pissed, Blue, Salty, YAAAS and DGAF. And don\u2019t worry,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PjxRUEA0Tdo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-gtm-vis-first-on-screen-460147_156=\"5901\" data-gtm-vis-total-visible-time-460147_156=\"100\" data-gtm-vis-has-fired-460147_156=\"1\" class=\" decorated-link\">there\u2019s a commercial.<\/a>\u00a0In it, a bunch of despondent-looking people express, via the art of song, that it\u2019s OK to admit something\u2019s wrong and that you don\u2019t always have to feel great. It looks like a cross between the musical interlude in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6ySNaIZqucc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-gtm-vis-first-on-screen-460147_156=\"5905\" data-gtm-vis-total-visible-time-460147_156=\"100\" data-gtm-vis-has-fired-460147_156=\"1\" class=\" decorated-link\"><em>500 Days of Summer\u00a0<\/em><\/a>and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dTKqO1unhAU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-gtm-vis-first-on-screen-460147_156=\"5908\" data-gtm-vis-total-visible-time-460147_156=\"100\" data-gtm-vis-has-fired-460147_156=\"1\" class=\" decorated-link\">PSA for at-risk teens<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>From<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/05\/02\/burger-king-takes-on-mcdonalds-with-a-range-of-unhappy-meals.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">CNBC:\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Timed to Mental Health Awareness Month in May, the \u201cReal Meals\u201d include the Blue Meal, Salty Meal, Yaaas Meal and DGAF (Don\u2019t Give a F\u2014) Meal. They include a Whopper, french fries and a drink.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"BoxInline-container \">\n<blockquote>\n<div id=\"BoxInline-ArticleBody-7\" class=\"BoxInline-container\">\u00a0\u201cBurger King restaurants understands that no one is happy all the time. That\u2019s why they\u2019re asking guests to order a Whopper meal based on however they might be feeling,\u201d an online release says.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The effort also pokes fun at\u00a0<a class=\" decorated-link\" tabindex=\"\" title=\"\" role=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/?symbol=MCD\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"nofollow\">McDonald\u2019s<\/a>, which markets Happy Meals, boxed kids\u2019 deals that include a toy. Burger King launched an ad on YouTube showing a montage of people in various emotional states, using the line: \u201cNo one is happy all the time. And that\u2019s OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ad swaps Burger King\u2019s well-known chorus from the 1970s, \u201cHave it your way,\u201d with \u201cFeel your way.\u201d The music also has been changed to be more authentic to the idea that people can have a range of feelings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<p>Yes: a wonderful way to sell hamburgers is to market them to people who feel hopeless, scorned, frustrated and mad at the world. Encourage them to consume things that may lead to heart disease, obesity, diabetes and cancer.\u00a0 Put burgers in grim dark boxes with profane names. Sell despair. \u201cFeel your way.\u201d Because all that matters is how you feel, right?\u00a0 Don\u2019t worry, be crappy.
