Pope Francis has approved the revised translation of the missal for Italy and includes changes to the Lord\u2019s Prayer and Gloria.<\/p>\n

Italian Catholic bishops\u2019 conference president Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti announced that Pope Francis authorized the publication of the revised translation of the third edition of the Messale Romano, according to Avvenire, the daily newspaper of the Italian bishops\u2019 conference.<\/p>\n

It will be some months before the books are printed and available for use. The bishops had approved the translation last November.<\/p>\n

According to the new translation, the Lord\u2019s Prayer will no longer say \u201cand lead us not into temptation\u201d but will become \u201cdo not let us fall\/be abandoned into temptation.\u201dThe Gloria will also be revised. \u201cPeace on earth to people of good will\u201d will become \u201cPeace on Earth to people beloved by God.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You may remember a similar adjustment was made to the French translation<\/a><\/strong> of the prayer a couple years ago:<\/p>\n

In the modern French version of\u00a0Notre P\u00e8re<\/em>, produced in 1966, the sixth request to God, rendered in the King James Version as \u201cLead us not into temptation\u201d, was \u201cDo not submit us to temptation\u201d (Ne nous soumets pas \u00e0 la tentation<\/em>).<\/p>\n

The new version, which was agreed by the French bishops in March, reads \u201cDo not let us enter into temptation\u201d (Ne nous laisse pas entrer en tentation<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Bishop Guy de Kerimel, who oversees liturgy for the French bishops, has said the previous version was ambiguous.<\/p>\n

The new translation of the Latin\u00a0ne nos inducas in tentationem\u00a0<\/em>has also been approved by French-language Protestant churches. It will be used in all Catholic churches in France from December 3, the first Sunday in Advent.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
