Yes, they\u2019re making a movie from the best-selling book. Variety <\/a><\/strong>has the scoop:<\/p>\n

Octavia Spencer is in final negotiations to play God in Lionsgate\u2019s adaptation of the bestselling novel \u201cThe Shack<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"220px-Octavia_Spencer\"<\/a>Stuart Hazeldine is directing the pic, with Gil Netter producing through Netter Productions along with Brad Cummings. Production is set to start this spring.<\/p>\n

Based on the\u00a0William P. Young<\/a>\u00a0novel published in 2007, the story follows a man whose youngest daughter is abducted during a family vacation, with evidence found in an abandoned shack leading authorities to believe she was murdered. Four years later, the man receives a note, apparently from God, inviting him back to the shack and, against his better judgment, he accepts the invitation and finds something there that will change his life forever.<\/p>\n

The book adaptation would be a major project for Lionsgate, which acquired it in 2013, as it\u00a0has sold more than than 18 million copies worldwide in 39 languages, with 10 million in the U.S.<\/p>\n

The role looks like another strong opportunity for Spencer, who won an Academy award for her role in \u201cThe Help.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I know a lot of people loved \u201cThe Shack.\u201d Me, not so much. I made it\u00a0through the first hundred pages, got bored and gave up. \u00a0I could be wrong, but I don\u2019t think God should be tedious.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s hope the movie turns out better, for God\u2019s sake.<\/p>\n
