Bernie Sanders is leaving the country ahead of the New York primary. The Democratic presidential candidate is heading to the Vatican.<\/p>\n

Sanders\u2019s campaign made the announcement of the visit today in an email to reporters.<\/p>\n

\u201cU.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Friday accepted an invitation from the Vatican to attend a conference hosted by the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences on social, economic and environmental issues,\u201d says the Sanders campaign.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI am delighted to have been invited by the Vatican to a meeting on restoring social justice and environmental sustainability to the world economy. Pope Francis has made clear that we must overcome \u2018the globalization of indifference\u2019 in order to reduce economic inequalities, stop financial corruption and protect the natural environment. That is our challenge in the United States and in the world.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
