R. S. Mead translated the short writing from the\u00a0Leucian\u00a0<i>Acts of John.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p>I thought of this scripture in Matthew and Mark:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And when they had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/scriptures\/nt\/matt\/26.30?lang=eng&amp;clang=eng#p29\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">sung an\u00a0hymn<\/a>, they went out into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/scriptures\/nt\/mark\/14.26?lang=eng&amp;clang=eng#p25\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">mount of Olives<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The tone and verbiage are so reminiscent of things sacred to me and caused me to really consider the Gospel authors\u2019 brief, understated verse.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_392\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-392\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-392\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/819\/2018\/03\/512px-Christ_Taking_Leave_of_the_Apostles.jpg\" alt=\"Duccio di Buoninsegna [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons\" width=\"512\" height=\"448\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-392\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Duccio di Buoninsegna, \u201cChrist Taking Leave of the Apostles\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>The Hymn of Jesus<\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>Now before He was taken by the lawless Jews\u2013by them who are under the law of the lawless Serpent\u2013He gathered us together and said:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Before I am delivered over unto them we will hymn the Father, and so go forth to what lieth before [us].\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Then bidding us make as it were a ring, by holding each others\u2019 hands, with Him in the midst, He said:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Answer \u201cAmen\u201d to Me.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Then He began to hymn a hymn and say:<\/p>\n<h3>THE HYMN.<\/h3>\n<p>Glory to Thee, Father!<\/p>\n<p>(And we going round in a ring answered to Him:)<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>Glory to Thee, Word (<i>Logos<\/i>)!<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>Glory to Thee, Grace (<i>Charis<\/i>)!<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>Glory to Thee, Spirit!<br>\nGlory to Thee, Holy One!<br>\nGlory to Thy Glory!<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>We praise Thee, O Father;<br>\nWe give Thanks to Thee, O light;<br>\nIn Whom Darkness dwells not!<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>(For what we give thanks to the Logos). [Or, if we adopt the \u201cemended\u201d text: For what we give thanks, I say:]\n<\/p><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#save\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would be saved; and I would save.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#loose\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would be loosed; and I would loose.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#wound\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would be wounded; and I would wound.<\/a><\/p>\n[Or, I would be pierced; and I would pierce. Another reading has: I would be dissolved (or consumed for love); and I would dissolve.]\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#beget\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would be begotten; and I would beget.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#eat\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would eat; and I would be eaten.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#hear\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would hear; and I would be heard.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#wash\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would be washed; and I would wash.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#grace\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">(Grace leadeth the dance.)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#pipe\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would pipe; dance ye all.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#dirge\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would play a dirge; lament ye all.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#eight\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The one Eight (Ogdoad) sounds (or plays) with us.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>The Twelfth number above leadeth the dance.<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#nature\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">All whose nature is to dance [doth dance].<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#dance%20not\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Who danceth not, knows not what is being done.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#flee\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would flee; and I would stay.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#adorn\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would be adorned; and I would adorn.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#at-one\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would be at-oned; and I would at-one.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#dwelling\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I have no dwelling; and I have dwellings.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>I have no place; and I have places.<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>I have no temple; and I have temples.<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>I am a lamp to thee who seest Me.<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#mirror\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I am a mirror to thee who understandest Me.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>I am a door to thee who knockest at Me.<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>I am a way to thee a wayfarer.<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#answer\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Now answer to My dancing!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>See thyself in Me who speak;<br>\nAnd seeing what I do,<br>\nKeep silence on My Mysteries.<\/p>\n<p>Understand by dancing, what I do;<br>\nFor thine is the Passion of Man<br>\nThat I am to suffer.<\/p>\n<p>Thou couldst not at all be conscious<br>\nOf what thou dost suffer,<br>\nWere I not sent as thy Word by the Father [or I am thy Word; I was sent by the Father.]\n<\/p><p>Seeing what I suffer,<\/p>\n<p>Thou sawest Me as suffering;<br>\nAnd seeing, thou didst not stand,<br>\nBut wast moved wholly,<br>\nMoved to be wise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#couch\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Thou hast Me for a couch; rest thou upon Me.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#depart\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Who I am thou shalt know when I depart.<\/a><br>\nWhat now I am seen to be, that I am not.<br>\n[But what I am] thou shalt see when thou comest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#suffer\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">If thou hadst known how to suffer,<\/a><br>\nThou wouldst have power not to suffer.<br>\nKnow [then] how to suffer, and thou hast power not to suffer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#teach\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">That which thou knowest not, I Myself will teach thee.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#betrayer\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I am thy God, not the Betrayer\u2019s<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#in%20time\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I would be kept in time with holy souls.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In Me know thou the Word of Wisdom.<\/p>\n<p>Say thou to Me again:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/chr\/gno\/hoj.htm#father\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Glory to Thee, Father!<\/a><br>\nGlory to Thee, Word!<br>\nGlory to These, Holy Spirit!<\/p>\n<p>But as for Me, if thou wouldst know what I was:<br>\nIn a word I am the Word who did play [or dance] all things, and was not shamed at all.<br>\n\u2018Twas I who leaped [and danced].<\/p>\n<p>But do thou understand all, and, understanding, say:<\/p>\n<p>Glory to Thee, Father!<\/p>\n<p>Amen!<\/p>\n<p>(And having danced these things with us, Beloved, the Lord went forth.
