Carson: I Am But a Tool of the Lord

Carson: I Am But a Tool of the Lord December 12, 2014

You know someone is running for the Republican nomination for president when they start talking about how they’re just a humble servant of God doing his bidding. Ben Carson’s recent interview with the 700 Club contains just such language, in case anyone doubted that he was going to run.

Today, Brody released another segment from his interview where the conservative activist was joined by his wife, Candy, to describe how God is calling him to make a presidential bid.

“We recognize that we are being instruments in the hand of God, he is the one who really orchestrates all of this,” Carson said.

Such a statement is intended to do a couple of things. First, it panders to the people who vote in the Republican primaries. Second, it wraps up his personal ambition to be president in the swaddling clothes of divine blessing. No evidence need be offered for the claim, of course, because both he and his followers are immune to such mundane requirements.

At least three of the R candidates last time ran because the Lord told them to do so. The eventual candidate was a man who is, by their standards, a non-Christian. The Lord, it is said, works in mysterious ways. The dollar, not so much.

  • doublereed

Sounds something like a High Inquisitor would say.

  • mkoormtbaalt

If they gave proof, that would show that they don’t have faith. Why don’t you want our leaders to have faith!?! /s

  • Alverant

I think this should be considered proof that there is a man out there with ESP and is posing as God to get these tools to run for President so he/she can have a few good laughs at their expense.

  • anubisprime

What is the conclusion if he does not make the nomination?

Did not pray hard enough presumably, or the ‘lawd thy delusion’ just does not do fucktard nominations for president…unless its Jebediah’ of the clan Bush…Exceptions can be made besides the Bush boys know where all the bones are buried, best not rile them up y’all.

  • Carson: I’m absolving myself for anything I might say or do.

“We recognize that we are being instruments in the hand of God, he is the one who really orchestrates all of this,” Carson said.

Best I can figure is Carson is a plastic kazoo from a Crackerjack box.

“We recognize that we are being instruments in the hand of God, he is the one who really orchestrates all of this,”

Unless god has a black Democrat elected of course.

  • lordshipmayhem

    A tool of Lord Haw-Haw, perhaps…

  • matty1

There could be something in this, I mean look at God’s record and you know what they say about a bad workman.

  • Loqi

Might someone remind me again why god needs tools?

  • alanb

You can also tell when someone is running for office when they appear in public with spouses and other family members.

  • Loqi:

How else is he going to build his spaceship? Duh.

  • dingojack

    Tool of the Lord?

I’m guessing unknapped hammer-stone or blunt digging stick…

  • dingojack

If these are the kind of tools the Lord employs, is it any wonder that people mock your god, Mr Bek?

  • He’s not a tool, he’s the whole damn shed!

  • comfychair

Anybody still willing to defend the ‘Ben Carson Reading Rooms’ sprouting up throughout the New Confederacy’s elementary schools? Anybody? Bueller?

  • tbp1

Anybody wanna bet that lots of Carson supporters are people who thought that then-Senator Obama lacked the experience needed to be President?

  • dingojack

comfychair – Ben Carson is evil therefore Ben Carson sponsored reading rooms are evil. Evidence?

  • comfychair

Yes, I’m sure the featured works would present a clear-headed, fact-based picture of the world. As opposed to the obviously liberal bias in the Mississippi public school curriculum.

  • comfychair

OK then, how about an Ann Coulter Reading Room? A Phyllis Schlafly Reading Room? Or hell, a Baby Jesus Reading Room. In a public elementary school? No? Why not?

  • dingojack

    So none then, OK.

Can you spell ad hominem, boys & girls?

  • Serious comment (sort of): Is the claim to receive a calling from God to run for President kind of like how monarchs would claim divine right to rule? A sort of legitimisation process for a candidate who otherwise would come across as not skilled enough rolling in enough fundraising money for the job?

Not serious: Oh, come now, dingojack, after all these years reading this blog, surely you realise that the null hypothesis for any venture undertaken by a Republican is that it is prima facie EEEEEEVIL.

  • dingojack

composer99 – Is it unreasonable to expect some EEEEVUULLution in position?

    😉 Dingo
