What Color is the Sky in Trumpworld?

What Color is the Sky in Trumpworld? February 21, 2018

Desperate to say or do anything to get the heat of the Russia investigation removed, Donald Trump unleashed another tweet from an alternate reality that exists only in his mind and those of his followers. He actually claims he’s been tougher on Russia than Obama was.

Okay, let’s look at the facts (sorry, President Oompa Loompa, but we deal with facts here):

In March, 2014, Obama imposed new Russian sanctions “on individuals and entities responsible for violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, or for stealing the assets of the Ukrainian people. These sanctions put in place restrictions on the travel of certain individuals and officials and showed our continued efforts to impose a cost on Russia and those responsible for the situation in Crimea.” A few months later, those sanctions were expanded to cover more people and institutions in Russia. And in January, he imposed new sanctions in retaliation for the election interference that Trump still denies happened because he believes his pal Putin’s denials.

Trump’s record on sanctions: Refusing to impose them even after Congress voted by a better than 99% margin (517-5) to do so, in flagrant violation of the law. That was after lashing out at Congress for passing the bill in the first place, which he said was worsening our relationship with Russia and “very dangerous.” Tough on Russia, indeed. As usual, Trumpworld is a whole different planet from the one the rest of us live in.
