As has happened so many times, Trump sat and watched Fox and Friends and immediately promised to do something he has no authority to do. They did a story Sunday morning about a Green Beret charged with murder by the Army and two and a half hours later, he tweeted out that he’d be “reviewing” the case because the man is a “military hero.”
At the request of many, I will be reviewing the case of a “U.S. Military hero,” Major Matt Golsteyn, who is charged with murder. He could face the death penalty from our own government after he admitted to killing a Terrorist bomb maker while overseas. @PeteHegseth @FoxNews

And once again he shows that he has absolutely no understanding of separation of powers or judicial independence. The Associated Press correctly noted, “Any review or intervention by Trump could constitute unlawful command influence and could threaten the case against the former Green Beret.” The commando faces a court martial and the president should not be intervening in any such proceeding. The military has its own justice system. The accused will get all the rights promised in the Constitution during his trial, as he should. The president should stay the hell out of it.
