Bryan Fischer celebrates the 4th of July by declaring that if you aren’t patriotic (by his undoubtedly twisted definition, of course), you’re committing a sin against God — but only if you’re an American, because God likes us more than everyone else and has done unspecified things to “protect” the country against…well, something.
Bryan Fischer, like most Christian righters, rants endlessly about the dangers of Sharia law (which is dangerous but also totally irrelevant in the United States) while simultaneously wishing that they could institute significant parts of it to control the sex lives of others. Here’s a perfect example:
Bryan Fischer on his radio show this week said of the Russian anti-gay law, “That’s a policy we ought to have in the United States. It’s inexcusable that we allow vulnerable, innocent young children to be indoctrinated, brainwashed, propagandized into thinking that homosexual conduct is perfectly normal and absolutely benign behavior when it absolutely is not.”
This week the Supreme Court denied cert in the case involving a photography business in New Mexico that refused to do a lesbian wedding, leading Bryan Fischer to fire up the exaggeration machine and declare that it’s now a crime to be a Christian in the United States.
Bryan Fischer’s reaction to the shootings at Ft. Hood was to claim that if only the shooter had been taught the 10 Commandments in school he wouldn’t have done it. Right, because post-war PTSD is totally prevented that way. As Jon Stewart once said: If you think putting up the 10 Commandments in schools will make them behave better, you probably also think that “employees must wash hands” sign in the restaurant bathroom is keeping the urine out of your cheeseburger.
If you want a vision of the totalitarian theocracy that Bryan Fischer thinks we should all live in, look no further than a recent broadcast of his radio show where he said that he’d be “absolutely fine with a fifteen year incarceration for the crime of adultery.”
Bryan Fischer says gay people aren’t really gay, they’ve just let Satan get a “stronghold” inside their brain.
“A lot of homosexuals think they were born that way because they’ve got a stronghold in their mind, the world and the flesh and the Devil has gotten this stronghold, this error that’s seeped into their brains,” Fischer said. “And it’s a stronghold, it’s a fortress, it is so powerfully reinforced that people think they’ve always been this way and there’s not anything they can do about it and so they don’t even make the effort. Now that’s not to say it’s easy, but it can be done.”
Bryan Fischer once again declared his preference for theocracy over a free society, saying on his radio show that gay people should be discriminated against because “the responsibility of those in civil authority is to only approve that which God approves and to stand against that which He rejects.”
On his show last week, Bill Maher declared that the God of the Bible was a “psychotic mass murderer.” He’s right, of course. I can’t imagine who anyone could read the Old Testament and conclude otherwise. Bryan Fischer, though, was quite unhappy and explained that God hasn’t struck Maher down yet (which would only prove his point) because he’s giving him a chance to repent for telling the truth.
