Bryan Fischer is quite upset that we are accepting a few hundred refugees from war-torn Syria into the country because, true to his deep-seated bigotry against everyone who isn’t just like him, he thinks that only Christians should be allowed into the country.
Bryan Fischer just loves that proposed law in Arizona that allows Christians to discriminate against LGBT people and he delivered the usual idiotic rant about “jack-booted homofascist thugs” turning the United States into “Nazi Germany.” Blah blah blah.
Bryan Fischer’s hypothetical persecution complex is flaring up again. On his radio show this week he told his listeners that the FCC is going to shut down his show and all other Christian shows that speak out against homosexuality. Without a shred of evidence, of course.
Not since Jerry Maguire screamed “I love the black man!” into a telephone has a more implausible declaration of racial amour been heard than the one offered by Bryan Fischer, who says we must make homosexuality illegal because he just loves black men so much.
What happens when an ignorant git comes into contact with information that he doesn’t understand? He makes absurd claims about it without bothering to look at the information. Because actually looking at the information might put one’s beliefs in peril and that can’t be allowed. Here’s a textbook example:
Here in Michigan we have Dave Agema, a far-far-right Republican who is a member of the Republican National Committee. He has a bad habit of saying incredibly stupid and bigoted things, which has led even the state’s most prominent Republicans to demand his resignation. But to Bryan Fischer, that just makes him like Jesus.
Bryan Fischer delivered his usual inane screed, saying that we should go back to the old days when only those who owned property were allowed to vote.
“You know, back in the day, in the colonial period,” Fischer said, “you have to be a landowner, a property owner to be eligible to vote and I don’t think that’s a bad idea. And the reason is very simple: if somebody owns property in a community, they’re invested in the community. If they’re renters, they’re going to be up and gone; they could leave the next day … [P]eople that are not property owners – it’s like people that pay no taxes, they have no skin in the game. They don’t care about the same things that somebody does who is rooted in the community”
In this video clip, Bryan Fischer is talking about a soldier suffering from PTSD. This noted psychologist opines that perhaps the soldier was beset with a demon sent by a curse by a “Satanic coven.” He even seems to know when these “covens” meet.
Bryan Fischer seems to be intent on one-upping his own world record for staggering stupidity, declaring on his Thursday show that “if somebody wants to exercise political power and he is an evolutionist, he is disqualified from holding political office in the United States of America.” Sadly, this is pretty much the only civilized nation where someone could say something that egregiously idiotic without being laughed off the public stage.
You can always count on Bryan Fischer to take the usual wingnut outrage and turn it into something even more stupid than what his colleagues are saying. On his show on Friday, he claimed — bizarrely — that the suspension of the duck dynasty douchebag is, literally, the mark of the beast.
Politifact took a look at Bryan Fischer’s repeated claim that the First Amendment applies only to Christianity and not to any other religion and rates it a “pants on fire” lie. Fischer told them that his source for that claim is Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story:
Bryan Fischer interrupted his regularly scheduled program of saying incredibly stupid things about politics to give a little preaching to those of us who keep up with his program just to highlight that stupidity. If we don’t stop, we’re all going to go to hell.
