Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council is joining Glenn Beck in campaigning for Ted Cruz and, like Beck, he’s trying to scare the little children of the Christian right with spook stories. If we don’t elect Cruz, he says, this may be the last election America ever has! Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.
I’ve written many times about the cottage industry that exists to scam those on the mailing lists of conservative individuals, organizations and websites. When you give them your email, you suddenly become a target for all manner of medical scams (secret Biblical cures!), financial frauds (Buy gold! Double your money in a week!). Mother Jones has an expose on the company behind many, perhaps most, of those scams.
Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis says that Christians can learn something from Donald Trump. Before even looking at the article, I knew what that something would be. It would be a bunch of nonsense about how Trump “speaks his mind” and isn’t “politically correct,” and Christians should learn to follow that example. Apparently I’m a far more accurate prophet than Glenn Beck could ever hope to be:
Former congressional staffer Mike Lofgren has a long article on Bill Moyers’ website about what he calls anti-knowledge, which is very much like the term I have long used, virulent ignorance. A person displays this, is infested with it, when they not only don’t understand an issue, but have swallowed a whole bunch of platitudinous falsehoods about it that give them the illusion that they understand it.
There are few things more amusing and ridiculous than when really hardcore religious people declare everything they disagree with to be a religion, which apparently discredits everything but their religion. Ted Cruz made this statement to Glenn Beck and it may be the single stupidest thing you’ll read this week (which is saying a lot — we just had a Republican presidential debate).
Glenn Beck did a very long and fawning interview with Carly Fiorina for his show this week, so fawning that he didn’t even bother to challenge her when she made this absolutely staggering statement about the evils of crony capitalism and how the rich and powerful — you know, like CEOs of major corporations — conspire to screw everyone else over by making government really complicated.
It looks like the Iran deal is pretty much assured because the Senate Republicans couldn’t get enough votes to override a veto, but Rep. Louis Gohmert seems to be trying to make absolutely sure that it does by threatening — err, promising — to leave office if Congress doesn’t stop the agreement from becoming a reality. Thank you, Mr. Gohmert, for giving us another reason to support the deal!
You may remember that back in 2013, the lead investigator for Joe Arpaio’s still-ongoing birther “cold case posse” promised that they were soon going to release some “universe-shattering” information that would, of course, prove to the world that President Obama really is a Kenyan-born Muslim Marxist antichrist car salesman, or something. Almost two years later, still no bombshell. The Worldnetdaily asks why:
David Clarke, the incredibly far-right sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, is openly calling for a revolution to overthrow the government, urging people to form a mob with “pitchforks and torches” and using the Declaration of Independence to justify it.
I wonder if there’s a competition between columnists for the Worldnetdaily to see who can offer up the most hyperbolic and ridiculous reaction to the Supreme Court’s marriage ruling. Craige McMillan takes his shot at the brass ring with Hitler, Stalin, Mao and “hell on earth.”
Matt Walsh, a bigoted halfwit who blogs for Glenn Beck’s The Blaze website, has a post entitled “Yes, Gay Marriage Hurts Me Personally.” The text of the post completely fails to justify that headline as he produces only this incredibly lame argument for it:
