There is a song (below) that is probably the soundtrack to my departure out of the funda-gelical (FG) world.<\/p>\n
For all those out there, whether it be the toxic spiritual\/religious narrative you inhabit, or job, relationship, marriage, church home, friendship, social media environment, political party, denomination\u2014whatever it may be\u2014I offer this song to you.<\/p>\n
Sometimes we just need to move on.\u00a0 If you feel stuck, trapped, caught, unable to move, sad, depressed, unhappy, without hope\u2014then I hope this song speaks to you.\u00a0 Move.\u00a0 Get up.\u00a0 Leave. I know it is hard.\u00a0 I know is it scary.\u00a0 It may be the hardest thing you ever do.\u00a0 It may come with great cost.\u00a0 Still, do it.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m not talking about leaving a situation or environment where one is merely frustrated and would like things to be different.\u00a0 I\u2019m not talking about moving on from a place where one is generally happy but would like to see some changes.\u00a0 Hard times, difficult times, times that feel like we are being crushed even- are needed for our spiritual growth and health.\u00a0 We will always have people and situations in our lives that stretch us, challenge us, confound us, anger us, and even hurt us.\u00a0 These are actually salvific.\u00a0 Stay. Pray. Persevere.<\/p>\n
Rather, I\u2019m talking about leaving a place where one can no longer stay and keep their sanity, integrity, principles, faith, or core values.\u00a0 I\u2019m talking about a place that has become toxic, poisonous, deadening, numbing, degrading, ugly, abusive, or de-humanizing.\u00a0 I\u2019m talking about a place where one is no longer safe emotionally, spiritually, or even physically.<\/p>\n
