This is a very interesting and informative account of a couple that went around the world on their honeymoon! You can get a lot of good travelling tips from this article. While our wedding was one wonderful day, our honeymoon was an incredible 28 days spent traveling around the world. We asked ourselves when else we could justify a month off from work, but our families wondered if we'd still be married after four straight weeks together in nine time zones. Read more

Here is an article by Anwar Syed in Dawnthat addresses the topic that I have strong views on and on which I have ended up in debates with many recently. It is a nice read: FROM time to time, statements of belief, and assertions allegedly of fact, gain widespread acceptance and begin to influence behaviour. Yet, on closer examination, they may turn out to be misinterpretations that in fact distort and disrupt societal interaction. I propose to examine a few of them below. A few weeks ago I read an article in this newspaper in which the author, while rejecting the Taliban’s general orientation and programme, praised their “courage of convictions” and the firmness of their commitment to their mission. Then he went on to scold the “moderates,” whom he saw as lacking in commitment to any set of principles and ready to go with the highest bidder or the more menacing coercer. Read more

This is like killing the golden goose! If these companies start to go on this path - then what stops from a low end entrepreneur to start a Wi-Fi across the city? In fact, the countries like Mauritius - which have nation-wide Wifi will be much better off!! I am sure this "tollbooth" writ wont run in other countries.. so these Senators better be sure as to what they are upto!! Toll booths might start popping up on the information superhighway. As Internet traffic starts to clog, the telephone and cable companies that control the nation's telecommunications networks are considering charging dot-coms such as Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc. extra to make sure their data gets special treatment — zooming along faster and more reliably than anyone else's. Read more

Is US going in the right direction? With so many religious overtones to every aspect of life and governance - we see that people are becoming less tolerant of others. It may be possible that the vandals thought this temple was probably related to the Muslims - which would be indeed sad! Or the vandals were just jealous that a minority community could spend $9 million in that city JUST on a temple! Whatever the reason.. this is something that needs to be addressed here on a long term basis!! A multi-million dollar temple under construction in mid-west Minnesota was vandalised on April 5 damaging large number of Hindu deities, which were specially imported from India. Read more

Good the debate on the mindless reservation has started in India - specially in case of the IIMs! I had an post earlier during the week on this one! The proposed reservation of 27% seats has brought about a cloud of apprehension over institutes of higher education. At IIM-Ahmedabad, students wonder — will it drastically cut down seats for general category? Will academic standards fall? Read more

In these times of mistrust and halting peace moves - this is a welcome news... at least something is happening in Pakistan that they let an Indian work at!! Interesting article... An Indian educational expert is making science learning fun in Pakistani schools by using his simple, inexpensive models made from everyday items that explain the fundamentals of science. Arvind Gupta from Pune has held training sessions for hundreds of teachers and students in several cities across Pakistan. Read more

Here is an article by a convert to Islam named Yvonne Ridley about her refusal to Shake hands with a Sheikh (Sheikh Tantawi) .. .. hmm.. if you dont Shake hands with Sheikh - what do you do with him? Shake is written all over him!! I have a flaw in my character and it gets me into serious trouble. It is something that has dogged me all of my life and causes no amount of consternation in some circles. Some people would say I am simply bad mannered or ill bred while others mightsay I'm too honest for my own good. Read more

This is a really funny article!! It is from a Toronto Daily.. and the writer is asking an obvious question .. that somehow seems to have missed the French students!! I somehow remember the stuff that Tom Friedman once wrote about the differences in Europe and Asia with regards to job attitudes of the youth! This is going to come back to bite the Continental Europe's future. Am I the only one who thinks France is nuttier than frangipane? Read more

This is a post-match report by one of the members of the England team. They have lost every match in this One day Series. To me this guy looks like ONE BIG SISSY!! Imagine a Boston Red Sox player cribing about the heat and humidity while playing in Texas after the defeat!! If you are an international cricketer - you BETTER know how to play in all conditions! We're playing for England, we're 4-0 down and want to put that right, but we have to pull our socks up and work even harder as a team now. Read more
