Now it is the turn of the POK kids to seek reservations in IIMs and IITs.. and somewhere the news byte says that the effort to open up higher learning institutes for POK folks has Indian Government approval \u2013 wonder if that means even looking at this reservation issue too??<\/p>\n

And since we are at it anyways.. .shall we reserve some percent seats for the rest of the Pakistanis too.. some for Africans who have endured slavery and tribal wars\u2026 Blacks of the US.. Aboriginies of New Zealand and Australia\u2026.<\/p>\n

Students of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have demanded reservation for them in India\u2019s elite educational institutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want quotas in the Indian Institute of Management, the Indian Institute of Technology and law colleges of India. India should not ignore us,\u201d said Shafquat Ali Inqlabi, a resident of Gilgit, told rediff.com.<\/p>\n

Inqlabi and other 18 others are visiting India to participate in a conference organised by the New Delhi-based Institute for Conflict Management to discuss \u2018Alternative Futures\u2019 for Jammu and Kashmir on May 19-20.<\/p>\n

Inqlabi says, \u201cIndian maps always show Gilgit and Baltistan as part of India. The Constitution of India mentions that we are part of India. In your eyes, we are Indians and Pakistan has \u2018occupied\u2019 Indian territory. Then, why should we not get admissions in the IIMs and the IITs?\u201d he says, adding, \u201cI am an engineer, but now, I want to study law in the best of Indian law colleges. Help me get admission.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the demands made in a resolution unanimously passed by the conference \u2014 which had the tacit support of Indian government \u2014 says, \u2018The Government of India should provide openings in higher, professional and technical educational institutions to deserving students from Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, who are denied necessary facilities for such education.\u2019<\/p>\n
