And if Modi is as much of a demon as some say, why do people vote for him?<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\nAdmittedly, this was a web only poll, and people are of a certain background. \u00a0But, that background \u2013 educated, urbane and suave \u2013 is supposed to be Rahul Baba\u2019s strong hold! \u00a0Modi is an old hag compared to him in looks and demeanour.<\/p>\n
But not in terms of energy and work.<\/p>\n
In these two areas, there is no parallel to Narendra Modi right now. \u00a0And, that is what Bhagat surmises. \u00a0That people who are anti-Congress are probably now coalescing towards Modi in very large numbers.<\/p>\n
The problem that I see with the Prime Ministership of Narendra Modi isn\u2019t that if the country is ready for Modi. \u00a0But rather if BJP is ready for Modi??<\/p>\n
BJP of Advani et al is no different from Congress in many ways. \u00a0The old guard is not free from the charges of corruption and their track record in their constituency and the Government hasn\u2019t been all that spectacular. \u00a0But Modi trumps all that.<\/p>\n
More importantly, Modi as PM means no minister will be able to make money. \u00a0So, keeping Modi from being the PM, is the best insurance for making money. \u00a0Which is what many BJP guys will be after.<\/p>\n
They don\u2019t care \u2013 including Advani \u2013 for the longevity of their party or the\u00a0ascendance\u00a0of BJP, but with their own personal ambition.<\/p>\n
Whenever I read or see movies on India\u2019s history just before and during the Mughal and British period, I am very frustrated and ashamed at the stupidity, selfishness and short term vision of the people who were at the helm with the power. \u00a0For they were remarkably shallow and un-intelligent people. \u00a0And, with a lot of respect yet honesty, I would include even heroes \u2013 Rana Pratap and others \u2013 in that bunch.<\/p>\n
Why?<\/p>\n
Because wars and those wars which can make or break a country\u2019s future are not to be fought to show one\u2019s mettle or bravery, but to win! \u00a0Specially, when you are facing an enemy which has no qualms of unethical behavior. \u00a0If you keep looking for that pure, ideal, ethical situation to win, then you are only self serving!<\/p>\n
In that situation, one has to win. \u00a0It would not be an exaggeration to say that the loss of wars against the Mughals and then against the British, are directly responsible for so many hungry people today. \u00a0The deaths in the famine of Bengal and many other calamities that befall a population because of its penury.<\/p>\n
Mughals and British were no altruistic force, so one can hardly hold much against them \u2013 although they were barbarians. \u00a0But those who were fighting them purported altruism. \u00a0And if that altruism didn\u2019t make them do \u201cwhat was needed\u201d to win<\/strong>\u00a0the wars, then they didn\u2019t do anything good.<\/p>\nAnd that is the situation now. \u00a0If we go one the way we are going, this country will again be colonized, albeit in a different way. \u00a0So, a war \u2013 an intellectual and a social war has to be fought, which will not be easy or any less demanding than the one fought by Rana Pratap or Rani of Jhansi; and it will need tough decisions and no mercy for those who will stoop to anything against the country.<\/p>\n
At that time, we need a person who stands apart. \u00a0One, who can take decisions. \u00a0Not because he has to be a hero, but because it is needed for the country. \u00a0And, in that role, I only see Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n
