Microsoft\u2019s MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger were some of the first most widely used IM clients in the earlier days of tech. \u00a0Then came along Skype and it disrupted the whole space. \u00a0Now, Skype is replacing the MSN Messenger (or the Windows<\/em>\u00a0Live Messenger<\/em>, as it is called now). \u00a0It is being sunset, as Skype takes over as the main IM technology from the Microsoft stable.<\/p>\n

Windows Live Messenger<\/a>\u00a0will officially retire this March,\u00a0Microsoft<\/a>\u00a0announced Tuesday in a mass email to the chat service\u2019s users.<\/p>\n

On March 15, all users will be switched over to\u00a0Skype<\/a>, which the\u00a0software giant acquired for $8.5 billion in October 2011<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are retiring the existing Messenger service globally \u2026 and bringing the great features of Messenger and Skype together,\u201d Microsoft said, adding that Messenger will continue to be available in mainland China. Last November, Skype president\u00a0Tony Bates confirmed in a blog post<\/a>\u00a0that Messenger would be shuttered in the first quarter of 2013.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Microsoft users can upgrade and sign in to Skype using their\u00a0Microsoft account (formerly known as a \u201cWindows Live ID\u201d).<\/p>\n

Do you think it is the right move? \u00a0Is there anything that you might miss in Skype that you had in Skype? \u00a0I personally don\u2019t see what someone would miss in Skype that one had in Live Messenger. \u00a0Skype is a far superior IM client than Live Messenger or even Yahoo Messenger.<\/p>\n
