A lady died this past January, and Citibank billed her for February &amp;<br>March for their annual service charges on her credit card, &amp; added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had been $0,<br>now somewhere around $60. A family member placed a call to Citibank.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the exchange:<\/p>\n<p><span>Family Member<\/span>: \u201cI am calling to tell you she died in January.\u201d<br><strong>Citibank:<\/strong> \u201cThe account was never closed, and the late fees &amp; charges<br>still apply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Family Member:<\/span> \u201cMaybe you should turn it over to collections.\u201d<br><strong>Citibank:<\/strong> \u201cSince it is 2 months past due, it already has been.\u201d<br>Family Member: So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?\u201d<br>Citibank: \u201cEither report her account to frauds division or report her<br>to the credit bureau. Maybe both!\u201d<!--break--><\/p>\n<p><span>Family Member:<\/span> \u201cDo you think God will be mad at her?\u201d<br>(I really liked this part!!!!)<br><strong>Citibank:<\/strong> \u201cExcuse me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Family Member:<\/span> \u201cDid you just get what I was telling you?\u2026the part<br>about her being dead?\u201d<br><strong>Citibank:<\/strong> \u201cSir, you\u2019ll have to speak to my supervisor.\u201d (Duh!)<br>(Supervisor gets on the phone):<\/p>\n<p><span>Family Member:<\/span> \u201cI\u2019m calling to tell you she died in January.\u201d<br><strong>Citibank:<\/strong> \u201cThe account was never closed, so the late fees and charges<br>still apply.\u201d (This must be a phrase taught by the bank!)<\/p>\n<p><span>Family Member:<\/span> \u201cDo you mean you want to collect from her estate?\u201d<br><strong>Citibank:<\/strong> (stammering) \u201cAre you her lawyer?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Family Member:<\/span> \u201cNo, I\u2019m her great-nephew.\u201d<br><strong>Citibank:<\/strong> \u201cCould you fax us a certificate of death?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Family Member:<\/span> \u201cSure.\u201d (fax number is given)<br>\n\/\/<br>\n\/\/<br>\n&amp;lt;!\u2013<br>\nD([\u201cmb\u201d,\u201du003cbr&amp;gt;nAfter they get the fax:u003cbr&amp;gt;nCitibank: &amp;amp;quot;Our system just isn&amp;amp;#39;t set up for death.
