The new year 2010 has come and it has been profound, sad, peaceful and one of grace for me and the family. In a matter of a week, my Mother and my Uncle (whom I was very close to) \u2013 two of the strongest souls I have encountered, left this realm and went the \u201cother side\u201d.<\/p>\n
Both lived a full life in a very short span of time and were always the pillar of strength to everyone around them. No matter what their state of mind, their health and how many odds they would encounter, they were always on the go and ready for the next \u201ctough thing\u201d. Life was never easy and a cake-walk, yet they handled the toughest of situations thrown at them with grace and equanimity. That combination is hard to find. And when I say \u201ctough situations\u201d, I don\u2019t say that lightly. Anyone else would have committed suicide in the first 100 meters of the marathon that these two souls ran in their lifetimes.<\/p>\n
Deaths are never easy on the loved ones left behind, but strangely, for both of these souls, every loved one was praying for their release!<\/p>\n
Watching as they faded into the other world and left their bodies, there were many lessons for all of us. But the greatest lesson was one which I call \u201cHappy Singh\u2019s Truism\u201d. Happy Singh is one of the most dearest friend of mine (this is nickname amongst friends). He came to me after my Mother\u2019s death and told me this:<\/p>\n
If you put 50 rotis (pieces of bread) and 20 sabzis (curry dishes) in front of Happy Singh. How much do you think Happy Singh can eat? He will eat only 4 rotis and 2 sabzis, the rest will have to go back. Right? So, why slog for the 46 other rotis and 18 extra sabzis? Just earn enough so you are above the basic threshold, after that.. whether you are 1 meter above that line or 1000 meters, it really doesn\u2019t matter.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
We fight hard the entire life but what is left of us in the end is just a few bones which get grounded in the dust as well. All the ambitions, the plans, the achievements are all brought down in one instant. I am not saying that one shouldn\u2019t strive for anything, for otherwise why live. But all the things should be put in perspective. No matter what one \u201closes\u201d or what one \u201cwins\u201d, it is just a temporary state of mind and living. It does not last and when you are out and cold, all that has no meaning. So fight.. fight hard\u2026 but remember to enjoy every moment as it comes to you without regard to the result. We get so entangled in the result of our efforts that we forget the moment that we are alive!<\/p>\n
This year, 2010, comes with that reminder for me \u2013 that I should free my self of all my limitations and give every moment my best, for each moment is a miracle in itself \u2013 a Unique one in the entire Creation.. never before has such a moment been and never will it come again! That, in itself\u2026. just that distinction of this moment, is enough to enjoy it. Nothing can be more rare than this one moment.<\/p>\n
My wish for all the readers of Drishtikone \u2013 make every moment a NEW one.. and enjoy it for what it is, not for what you think it has brought to you. All that is just temporary in the grand scheme of things.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
