At the end, Abigail leaned in to tell her, \u201cGod will be with you tonight, Anna.\u201d<\/p>\nIsn\u2019t that nice?<\/p>\nExcept, afterwards Abigail turned around to my wife and said, \u201cMommy, I told Anna that God would be with her and the other God<\/em> will be with me.\u201d<\/p>\nOh no! I teach about Christian worldview and my daughter is a polytheist at age three!!<\/p>\nSo, it\u2019s one thing just to help people get things straight about who God is, but then you now have to do it a culture that historians and sociologists call the Information Age.<\/p>\nLiving in the Information Age changes the entire context of how we understand the world, ourselves, and God.<\/p>\nWe live in a culture that\u2019s very, very noisy.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7901\" src=\"https:\/\/christianpodcastcentral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Information-Age2.png\" alt=\"Information Age2\" width=\"550\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\nYou see, when my grandmother, who lived in the panhandle of Nowhere, West Virginia, was alive, a telephone was something with a wire attached to a wall, that could be used to reach an operator who would then connect the call for you. A phone to my kids is not even something used to make a call. They use it to play games. In fact, a couple months ago I gave my phone to my daughter so she could play a few games. 30 minutes later, she had updated my Facebook profile twice.<\/p>\nShe was 6 and I had never shown her Facebook.<\/p>\nThe first post said, \u201cMommy, I love you. -Abigail.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nThe second said, \u201cDaddy, you have fat feet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nNow all my kids know about Facebook, so whenever I post a picture of them they\u2019re always asking, \u201cHow many likes do I have?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nSo this is the world that we all live in today.\u00a0\u00a0 You\u2019re being bombarded with information ever minute of every day.<\/p>\nThat being said, the Age of Information is an age of competing ideas, and what you need to understand about information is that it\u2019s not neutral. Information is never neutral.<\/p>\nEvery single time you get on the internet, you have more information than all the previous centuries of the world combined at your fingertips. There\u2019s about 500 megs of information added to the internet every single year for every single person on the planet.<\/p>\nThat\u2019s a lot of information.<\/p>\nAs I said before, information is never neutral. Information is trying to tell you stuff about life. Sometimes the information is pretty trivial, but sometimes the information you get is actually wrestling with the deeper questions of life: Does life have meaning? Where do I come from? Am I different than the animals? What makes me human? What is right and wrong? What happens after I die?<\/p>\nThese are what philosophers call the \u201cUltimate Questions\u201d.<\/p>\nAnimals don\u2019t ask these questions; this is a human thing to do. All animals care about are: where are they going to find their next meal, where will they find their next nap, and where they are going to find their next mate.<\/p>\nBut, humans ask the bigger questions of life!<\/p>\nTake, for instance, the history of philosophy and philosophers like Jean Paul Sartre, who said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\u201cIt is meaningless that we are born, it is meaningless that we die.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\nYou can also look at this quote from Woody Allen, who always includes philosophy within his films:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\u201cMore than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness, the other to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\nThen, there are the great poet\/philosophers of our day\u2026 such as Weezer:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\u201cBeverly Hills, that\u2019s where I want to be. Livin\u2019 in Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills. Rolling like a celebrity. Livin\u2019 in Beverly Hills\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\nEven Lance Armstrong had an idea about the meaning of life. To him, the meaning of life is yellow<\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\u201cYellow wakes me up in the morning. Yellow gets me on the bike everyday. Yellow has taught me the true meaning of sacrifice. Yellow makes me suffer. Yellow is the reason I\u2019m here\u2026 Life is short, it\u2019s better to win<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\nNow that\u2019s obvious when you look at a guy like Michael Phelps or Michael Jordan, or before getting busted Lance Armstrong. But that\u2019s also the worldview of guy named Bernie Madoff. He wanted to win in the financial district, so he set up a ponzi scheme and stole millions upon millions of dollars from people.<\/p>\nIt was also the worldview of Adolf Hitler. He believed that life was only about power. \nThese ideas have different impacts. That\u2019s what is so important about the Age of Information. An age of information is an age of ideas, and ideas have consequences<\/u><\/em><\/strong>. Good ideas have good consequences. Bad ideas have bad consequences. Big ideas have big consequences. Stupid ideas have stupid consequences.<\/p>\nEven Eva Longoria, who is not known for having deep thoughts, has thought about this. She said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\u201cIn college, I went from being a Catholic to being non-denomination to being a Christian, but now I just want to believe in a higher power. That\u2019s a good way to live.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\nIn other words, that\u2019s an idea about ideas that\u2019s pretty popular in our culture \u2013 it doesn\u2019t matter what you believe, as long as you believe in something. It doesn\u2019t matter what\u2019s true. All that matters is what\u2019s true for you.<\/p>\nHowever, it DOES matter what you believe because the ideas you believe have consequences!<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"To purchase the entire Summit Lecture Series, Vol. 1 on DVD, go to:\u00a0summit.org.
