I am a complete oxymoron! I know it! I admit it! I own it! I am one of the laziest perfectionists you\u2019ll ever meet. I\u2019m the messiest organized person, too! I\u2019m also highly creative and highly analytical. My right brain and left brain are in constant competition.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I actually look at organization as a puzzle. It\u2019s a fun challenge for me to solve.\u00a0Just how simply can I make things to get it totally efficient?<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0I tweak and tweak and tweak again until I can get it to work just right.<\/p>\n

Yes, I love organizing things! I love figuring out new systems and new ways to simplify\u2026which is why I\u2019m so excited about having none other than Mystie Winkler on the podcast today!\u00a0Mystie speaks my love language \u2014 organization!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Mystie runs a blog called\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplifiedorganization.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Simplified Organization<\/strong><\/a>. \u00a0I mean, how much more of a perfect fit for the Simply Joyful Podcast can you get? Mystie is a self-proclaimed \u201cslob by nature and has been actively combatting that tendency for 8 years now.\u201d<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-10041 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/christianpodcastcentral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Mystie-Winkler.png\" alt=\"Practical Tips for Being More Productive with Mystie Winkler\" width=\"550\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\nMystie has not always been a naturally clean and tidy person.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0She\u2019s had to learn to\u00a0 change her attitude about how she cares for her home \u2014 and her family. Formerly she felt like \u201chousecleaning was a waste of time.\u201d However, things changed when she learned her \u201cwhy\u201d behind keeping her house in order. It became more about changing her perspective than finding new ways to clean. Her problem wasn\u2019t not knowing what to do.\u00a0Her problem was<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>not caring<\/em><\/strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0Well, she\u2019s learned to care and she shares more about that today.<\/p>\nYou are going to love this episode if you are looking for a real conversation from two women who have had to overcome their non-tidy ways to become organized.<\/p>\n<h3>On a \u201cSimply\u201d & \u201cJoyful\u201d side note\u2026<\/span><\/h3>\nMystie\u2019s family sings and memorizes poetry together in the morning, and this puts them all in a good frame of mind to begin other work.<\/p>\n<h2>In This Episode\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\nIn this episode, Mystie and I talk through practical tips and advice about how to be more productive.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Mystie explains what \u201cbrain dumping\u201d is and the best way to do it. I Homeschool & My House is a Mess!<\/strong><\/a>}<\/li>\n<li>Mystie states that her eyes were opened to the \u201cwhy<\/em>\u201d from reading two novels:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2nY6Uqw\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mansfield Park<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/a>by Jane Austen and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2ofqCPp\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Bleak House<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/a>by Charles Dickens. \n\u201c[In the novel]<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Bleak House,<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>[the main] character is wrapped up in how she keeps her house. The fact that she has the \u2018household keys\u2019 and that the house runs smoothly because of her was a huge part of the beauty that she brings.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u2014 Mystie Winkler<\/li>\n<li>Mystie said that reading about this character from the Dickens classic helped\u00a0open her eyes to the fact that details do matter<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and that the way one keep her house reflects on the character of the housekeeper.<\/li>\n<li>\u201c[Paying attention to details is a] way that we love people. It\u2019s not meaningless, because it\u2019s a gift that we\u2019re giving to others.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u2014 Mystie Winkler<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe way we keep our house does speak to our character.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u2014 Mystie Winkler<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-10043\" src=\"https:\/\/christianpodcastcentral.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Mystie-Winkler-1-200x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><\/li>\n<li>I brought up the book\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2oWlDmp\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Discipline: The Glad Surrender<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/a>by Elisabeth Elliot and explained how the author brought up the fact that\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>if you want to see if someone is disciplined, look at their house.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0I was convicted!<\/li>\n<li>Mystie said that part of coming to know the meaning and value of cleaning up is doing it for others. Not just people you invite over, but the people that live in your house.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cYou need to bless your family as well as you would bless others with your house and the standard you keep your house in\u2026and what also prepares you for hospitality is when you make it a priority to actually take time to get a little bit organized here and there.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>\u2014 Kristi Clover<\/li>\n<li>We need to extend the hospitality we show to guests to our own family! It\u2019s so easy to forget that they are the ones who we should be focused on blessing. We need to get organized so that we can best live out our priorities.<\/li>\n<li>Mystie talked about her blogs:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n1)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplifiedorganization.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Simplified Organization<\/a>: where she keeps home and life management thoughts \n2)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplyconvivial.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Simply Convivial<\/a>: her homeschooling blog.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mystie shared her thoughts on productivity and\u00a0about how we only have \u201cso much time\u201d in our day. We need to be investing it in areas that are not self-focused.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>We need to ask ourselves, \n\u2014 \u201cWhat are the roles or responsibilities that God has given to me?\u201d \n\u2014 \u201cWho am I supposed to be serving?\u201d \n\u2014 \u201cAm I using my time to build and grow my family?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Mystie discussed that serving the important people in her life comes\u00a0before productivity<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and that feeling of accomplishment in herself.<\/li>\n<li>I asked Mystie to talk about one of her key habits for productivity:<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Decluttering your brain!<\/strong>\u00a0She said it\u2019s good to write down all the thoughts and worries that are occupying your mind on a piece of paper. On paper, it\u2019s much more obvious that we have too many commitments or emotional ties to unimportant duties.<\/li>\n<li>Mystie talked about brain dumping on paper vs. brain dumping on the computer.<\/em><\/strong>She explained how mental space and different brain connections comes into play. Once the brain dump is out, you: 1) Go through and delete\u00a0<\/em>as much as possible, 2) Set up a reliable calendar, a place to keep to-do lists, and a place to keep reference notes, & 3) Look at the lists regularly!
