Hi There,

This is my first post to the blogosphere world. I’ve been reading for many years, pre kids, post kids, pre social work independent practice license, and post license. I love to read and write. People, politics, parenting, philosophy, and psychology are my main areas of interests. Really, I should add some more, but they don’t start with P’s: culture, spirituality, sociology, science, and karaoke. I do love belting out the Platter’s “Great Pretender” every so often, when the kids are asleep and I’m surfing the web, landing on youtube while looking up all my favorite teenage-hood music.

I have so much more to learn, but in the meantime, why not post some things that I have learned? Why not encourage every day people like you? I don’t do a good job sometimes in person, so I thought I’d write to tell you that you are seen. You are heard, and you make a difference. I’m sorry that I have not shared this with you before. Sometimes, it looks like I was blind, deaf, or mute. Really, it’s because I’m a slow processor, and I’m not quick on my feet. By the time I check in for the night, some conversations, sights, and events during the day will finally click. Othertimes, it takes weeks or months, even years to register its significance.

So take heart that your efforts are not forgotten. What you feel, think, and do has not been in vain. I’ve been helped by you. I was rather encouraged the other day when you smiled at me. I was impressed when I saw you with your kid, even though I didn’t say a word. I was touched that you would let me in during rush hour traffic, or really that you didn’t honk your horns at me when I cut in the lane, rushing yet again to my destination. Thanks for having patience with me at the airports. Because I’m not quick on my feet, I’m now writing to let you know that I notice you, and you are doing great. No, I’m not stalking you, just people watching and writing about it belatedly.

Thanks for showing me grace and not giving up on me. Thanks for being there. Thanks for trying, not just for you but also for your loved ones. Keep it up, my fellow neighbor. Until we meet in person, may your hearts be encouraged. May your thoughts be hopeful. May you continue pursuing your dreams, as I pursue mine. This world is small, and we are somehow related or connected-is it six degrees of separation? Stay tuned for my writing shenanigans as I pay attention to you, whether in person or online in “cyberspace.” And thanks for reading my first blog.

Sincerely,

Kim Parker
