I\u2019m hoping to soon start working on a short NT Theology for IVP. I\u2019ve toyed with many ideas on how to go about it. The normal way to go is book by book or corpus by corpus (Thielman; Marshall), or a historical origins approach (Morris), whereas others \u00a0go for common themes\u00a0(Guthrie; Schreiner)<\/p>\n

How does one set-up a NT theology if one is equally concerned with critical issues and canonical setting? Several big questions emerge:<\/p>\n

Examine the books in historical order, canonical order, or take a corpus approach?<\/span>
\nAny place for the historical Jesus and the early church prior to Paul\u2019s letters?<\/span>
\nDo we go for Synoptics + John (= Tetraevangelium) or Synoptics + Acts?<\/span>
\nOr should Acts be placed with the General Letters in the proper Apostolos collection?<\/span>
\nPaul\u2019s letters, divide between disputed and undisputed?<\/span>
\nThen there\u2019s Hebrews, traditionally part of the <\/span>Paulinium<\/em>, but belongs more properly with the General Epistles!<\/span>
\nJohannine Corpus, Gospel and Letters or Gospel, Letters, and Revelation?<\/span><\/p>\n

At the moment I\u2019m thinking:<\/span><\/p>\n

Intro to NT Theology<\/span>
\nThe Historical Jesus<\/span>
\nPrimitive Confessions about Jesus<\/span>
\nPaul\u2019s Letters<\/span>
\nMark, Matthew, Luke-Acts<\/span>
\nJohn<\/span>
\nGeneral Letters<\/span>
\nRevelation<\/span>
\nThe Central Message of the NT<\/span><\/p>\n
