A detailed study on ancient Rome\u2019s daily news publication is currently`<\/span>absent in early Christian studies. This article seeks to begin filling this\u00a0<\/span>lacuna by surveying the history of this Roman news bulletin and\u00a0<\/span>highlighting the sorts of data that must be taken into account in order\u00a0<\/span>to determine the publication\u2019s subject matter, scope of distribution, and<\/span>\u00a0possible relevance for early Christian studies.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\nHe concludes:<\/p>\n
\nThe contents of this daily\u00a0<\/span>news bulletin were broad. Its distribution was far and wide. It was\u00a0<\/span>explicitly designed for the general population. Moreover, several likely\u00a0<\/span>implications for early Christian studies were noted throughout this\u00a0<\/span>examination, such as the expected diffusion of apostolic writings, the\u00a0<\/span>likely access to such gazettes by certain NT authors, and the<\/span>\u00a0pervasiveness of divorce as implied in 1 Corinthians 7. In light of these\u00a0<\/span>general observations, NT scholars may need to rethink certain\u00a0<\/span>connections between fields of study such as literacy, textuality, and\u00a0<\/span>orality, as well as reexamine certain biblical passages potentially\u00a0<\/span>affected by such evidence.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\nRelevant to anyone interested in ancient media, the genre of Acts, and historical sources available to Luke.<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
