<\/a><\/p>\nA line stuck out to me: \u201cIf Truman wanted to get out, he would.\u00a0 But he won\u2019t because we all accept the reality we have been given.\u201d<\/p>\n
And it\u2019s true, we do until we know we don\u2019t have to.<\/p>\n
Everyone in Truman\u2019s world was lying to him through their nasty teeth.\u00a0 It\u2019s a profoundly sad movie, y\u2019all.<\/p>\n
I was chatting it up the other day with a friend as we were reminiscing about nights in the Detroit clubs WAY back in the day.\u00a0 There were these chants where the girls would say horrible things to the dudes followed by the dudes saying horrible things to the ladies.<\/p>\n
(I was half-tempted to include the chants but once I typed it out and realized how vulgar it is, even I couldn\u2019t do it).<\/p>\n
And we thought this was fun.<\/em><\/p>\nAt that time, at that moment in reality, it was fun to me.<\/p>\n
It was the reality I accepted.\u00a0 It was the reality given to me, that I trusted and dare I say, cherished?<\/p>\n
Now, it\u2019s a reality that DISGUSTS me.\u00a0 I was okay being called a b*tch and a hoe\u2026all in the name of fun!?!?<\/p>\n
In that reality, I thought dudes constantly trying to use me was somehow flattering.\u00a0 I\u2019m telling you, I did not know it any other way.\u00a0 I did not understand or comprehend that I had any other worth outside of my sexuality.\u00a0 This reality was handed down to me by none other than my own Father.<\/p>\n
I didn\u2019t even know a different reality was possible.<\/p>\n
Ugh.<\/p>\n
At some point I realized, much like Truman did that the reality being presented to me was just not good enough<\/strong>.\u00a0 (Or that I was finally good enough to not need it).<\/p>\nIn April of 1996, I allowed my faith in Jesus to make a meaningful impact on my behaviors.\u00a0 Everything changed.<\/p>\n
Nowadays, I don\u2019t accept any reality because someone tells me it \u201chas to be this way.\u201d<\/p>\n
To use a phrase from my beloved hometown: Aw. HAAAALE. Naw. (translation: oh hell no)<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve had far too many people who were supposed to love me do the exact opposite for me to trust anyone who tells me to lay down and shut up.\u00a0 Those days are so far gone, thank the Lord.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m not looking to make folks feel comfortable with my behavior.\u00a0 I\u2019m not allowing anyone to shove me in a box for whatever gain it brings them.\u00a0 Sorry.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t accept that reality, at all.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\nNo one should force feed you or I to live in a way that imprisons us for their benefit and then tout it as \u201clove,\u201d or \u201cconcern.\u201d<\/p>\n
That\u2019s some bull.<\/p>\n
So.\u00a0 If you need to escape, do it!\u00a0 Do not accept the reality you\u2019ve been given because you think you need to, to make someone else happy.<\/p>\n
Do not accept the reality you\u2019ve been given because escape is scary.<\/p>\n
Do not accept the reality you\u2019ve been given because you think your alone.<\/p>\n
Do not accept the reality you\u2019ve been given because you foolishly believe no one understands what you are going through.<\/p>\n
Take control of your destiny.<\/p>\n
There are many millions of realities that could be yours, but only 1 reality which you can allow yourself to be stuck in\u2026to die in.<\/p>\n
