for America magazine:<\/p>\n

Rarely have I seen a movie audience as viscerally satisfied as the audience with whom I saw \u201cGet Out,\u201d the new horror-comedy written and directed by Jordan Peele of the comedy duo Key and Peele. I saw \u201cGet Out\u201d in a downtown D.C. theater on a Saturday night, amongst a big and mostly black crowd, drawn in by the promise of a horror movie where the villain is racism.<\/p>\n

You could describe several previous horror films that way. Think \u201cWhite Zombie\u201d or, to a lesser extent, \u201cNight of the Living Dead.\u201d But \u201cGet Out\u201d is made from a black perspective, unlike excellent but white-POV films like \u201cCandyman.\u201d And where films like \u201cTales from the Hood\u201d were didactic, \u201cGet Out\u201d is angry and baffled and terrified. Its effect on the audience was electric.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
