There are deaths that liberate a family. In an interview<\/a> with radio host Marc Maron, John Darnielle of the indie band The Mountain Goats says that he was only able to write the autobiographical album \u201cThe Sunset Tree\u201d after his abusive stepfather had died. And since he sang about his experiences of abuse, other survivors would come up to him at shows and talk to him about it. Darnielle told Maron that when this happens, \u201cI\u2019ll say, \u2018Has your abuser died yet?\u2019 They\u2019ll say, you know, \u2018No,\u2019 and I\u2019ll say, \u2018I want you to be ready. \u2018Cause it is, I mean I hate to say this, because you don\u2019t wish death on anybody\u2014it\u2019s wonderful when your abuser dies. It\u2019s wonderful. It\u2019s like nothing in the world. It\u2019s like you are free.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

But \u201cHereditary\u201d asks, What if death isn\u2019t enough?<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
