Greenbaum, who is Jewish, takes seriously her religion\u2019s admonition not to take a life. What sustains her, she said, is the knowledge that the reductions she has been involved with were done for sound medical reasons. She would never, she said, work at an abortion clinic. \u201cThis is as close as I would get,\u201d she said. \u201cHere, it is completely different. You are helping people have healthy babies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, she says: \u201cIt\u2019s a very hard procedure, because the baby is moving, and you are chasing it. That is what is very emotional \u2014 when the baby is moving and you are chasing it.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you still feel emotional?\u201d she asked Evans.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve come to look at it as: The finished product has a much better chance of surviving,\u201d replied Evans, who had been following the conversation intently. \u201cLook, you never want to dehumanize it, because then you get cavalier.
