(Partly because I was more into the murder-mystery\/existential questions than the superhero\/ethical ones. But this post makes like a dozen really good points.) Snippet: \u201cI\u2019ve reread five issues so far and I\u2019m more convinced than ever: <em>Watchmen <\/em>is not a story about \u2018what superheroes would really be like.\u2019 It\u2019s a story about Cold War America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But wait! there\u2019s more! UO follows up with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.highclearing.com\/archivesuo\/week_2004_01_25.html#004987\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">another really toothsome post<\/a>, including this yes-yes-YES moment: \u201cAlong that line, isn\u2019t it past time to stop discussing <em>Watchmen <\/em>as a work of hyper-realism?\u201d Hyper-realism is both <a href=\"http:\/\/eve-tushnet.blogspot.com\/2003_12_01_eve-tushnet_archive.html#107044226478010110\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">overrated <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/eve-tushnet.blogspot.com\/2003_12_01_eve-tushnet_archive.html#107248627270454269\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">impossible to recognize<\/a>. And oh <em>wow <\/em>do I wish I\u2019d considered the Jewish angle. Must ponder further, in the Ponder Patch.<\/p>\n<p>Oh and as long as we\u2019re linking to Unqualified Offerings on comics, there\u2019s bonus growliciousness <a href=\"http:\/\/www.highclearing.com\/archivesuo\/week_2004_01_25.html#004990\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>. I agree wholeheartedly\u2013I cannot, cannot, cannot! deal with stories where the ethical questions are dodged in the precise way UO details: \u201cIf you\u2019re going to write war stories, have the [deleted b\/c no blasphemin\u2019 on the blog] balls to acknowledge that killing people is what the participants in a war do.\u201d Oh <em>man<\/em>, is this one of my personal rant ignition switches.
