DARK, DARK MY LIGHT<\/span>: Lake Mungo<\/span> turns out to be a Blair Witch<\/span>-ified version of Pet Sematary<\/span>\u2013King\u2019s best novel, if you ask me and I know you didn\u2019t\u2013a cruel and sad meditation on grief. We are so convinced that there must be reasons<\/span>; and I loved Lake Mungo<\/span> for its insistence that no reason could ever be as big as the loss.<\/p>\n Lake Mungo<\/span> is also about proof. It\u2019s about the difference between knowing something<\/span> happened and knowing what<\/span> happened. (The imagery of linear streetlights along the highway vs. randomly- or divinely- or fate-placed stars is intentional, I think.)
