Kinen also gets my goat (betcha didn\u2019t know I had a goat! Shows what you <\/i>know\u2026) though, by identifying the Left<\/a> with \u201cpeople who talk about the poor.\u201d Boy will there be so much more about this when Shamed<\/a>, Sara<\/a> and I finish that Rock\u2019n\u2019Roll Conservative Manifesto, but for the moment, I\u2019ll just say that I stopped being a Leftist because I became convinced that many of the Left\u2019s ideas were harmful to poor, oppressed, and defenseless people. Kinen could spend some time poking around the web sites of the Institute for Justice<\/a>, City Journal<\/a><\/i>, or, heck, The Wall Street Journal<\/a><\/i> or Reason<\/a><\/i>; or he could read the mostly-swift What It Means to Be a Libertarian<\/a><\/i> and the very swift Losing Ground<\/a><\/i>, by Charles Murray; or Marvin Olasky\u2019s The Tragedy of American Compassion<\/a><\/i>; or Maggie Gallagher\u2019s The Abolition of Marriage<\/a><\/i>; or the section \u201cHow the Right Helps the Poor,\u201d here<\/a>. I\u2019m only vaguely a Republican, but it kills me that the Republicans so rarely make advocacy for the poor central to their message. They\u2019re too often content to let Democrats be the ones who \u201ccare.\u201d False, harmful, and annoying. (Uh, that wasn\u2019t meant for Glenn, who seems like a very cool guy. Sorry, got all ranty there.
