(That horse really should NOT have worked\u2013it should\u2019ve evoked memories of Monty Python members banging coconuts\u2013and yet the amazing lighting work and the actor\u2019s total commitment to the moment made his galloping seem terrifying, not silly.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold\">Dresden Codak<\/span>: <a href=\"http:\/\/dresdencodak.com\/2009\/05\/11\/42-essential-3rd-act-twists\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">42 Essential Third-Act Twists<\/a>. FOOD STARTS EATING PEOPLE.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pumpkingutter.com\/gallery2\/main.php\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Pumpkin Gutter<\/a><\/span>: This may be the most fabulous thing ever. Iron Pumpkin, embryo pumpkin, American Gothic pumpkin, braces pumpkin, scary eye pumpkin, tarantula pumpkin\u2026 there\u2019s something here for everyone (in the Addams Family). Sadly, I forget where I found this.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold\">Sean Collins<\/span>: Reviewing Al Columbia\u2019s <span style=\"font-style:italic\">Pim and Francie<\/span>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But moreover, these scary stories and disturbing images are all so gorgeously awful that they appear to have corrupted the book itself. They look like they\u2019ve emerged from the ether, seared or stained themselves partly onto the pages, then burned out, or been extinguished when the nominal author shut his sketchbook and hurled it across the room or tore up the pages in terror.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alltooflat.com\/about\/personal\/sean\/2009\/11\/comics_time_pim_francie.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">MORE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, he reviews <span style=\"font-style:italic\">Paranormal Activity<\/span>. While he ended up with a different overall stance on the movie <a href=\"http:\/\/evestoryblog.blogspot.com\/2009_10_01_archive.html#1202840712403908167\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">than I did<\/a>, I really liked a lot of his review, e.g.:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2026For some reason, the lights being flipped on and off really got me. They weren\u2019t flickering\u2013something was walking around turning lights on and off. Not only was something else present in the house, it was basically using the house the way we would\u2013only it was nothing like us in nature or intent. I dunno, that creeped me out pretty bad.<\/p>\n<p>But best\/worst of all were the two scenes where somnambulist Katie got out of bed, turned to face it, and just\u2026stood there, for hours and hours. That\u2019s pure automaton Freudian uncanny, of course, and a monumental horror-image par excellence. \u2026These are actions that really have no inherent emotional or psychological content whatsoever. They\u2019re purely neutral. But when you have no idea why someone\u2019s doing them, even totally neutral actions can become sinister, almost intolerable.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alltooflat.com\/about\/personal\/sean\/2009\/11\/the_stand_1.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">whole thing<\/a>\u2013plus comments-boxing!)<\/p>\n<p>Basically, the buzz around <span style=\"font-style:italic\">PA<\/span> has made me really want to rewatch <span style=\"font-style:italic\">The Blair Witch Project<\/span>\u2013especially since I am in the minority who really <span style=\"font-style:italic\">liked<\/span> the Heather character!\u2013so that\u2019s probably good.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oh life looked so rosy in the blogwatch,But I\u2019ll be a friend and I\u2019ll tell you what\u2019s in store\u2026 Belated Halloweenery edition.
