Lotsa horror-bloggers list the tropes which always freak them out<\/a>! Fascinating. I will say a) my thoughts about Zelda in the movie of Pet Sematary<\/span> can be discerned from my thoughts about the mother in the Willard<\/a><\/span> remake (which I otherwise loved\u2013and, in fact, I definitely would not make this same criticism of the novel of Pet Sematary<\/span>),<\/p>\n

and b) I can only think of two tropes which get to me as horror in a way that they affect me in no other genre. #1: the sea. Discussed here<\/a> and here<\/a> and here<\/a>. The black and churning ocean.<\/p>\n

#2: traumatized<\/a> blondes<\/a>. From The Birds<\/span> to Vertigo<\/a><\/span> and way beyond\u2026 horror is literally the only genre in which blondes really do it for me. I mean, I wouldn\u2019t kick Veronica Lake out of my\u2026 uh, church pew\u2026 but for the most part it\u2019s only in horror that blondes make sense to me.<\/p>\n
