The set is called the \u201cFantod Pack,\u201d the word <em>fantod<\/em> signifying \u201ca state of worry or nervous anxiety, irritability\u201d and thus possibly <em>the most Edward Gorey word ever<\/em>. (David Foster Wallace was fond of the word as well, using the phrase \u201chowling fantods\u201d multiple times in <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=infinite%20jest&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=boxoffbof-20&amp;linkId=CBDPH2LY5E7HRFL4\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Infinite Jest<\/a><\/em>; the main clearinghouse website for DFW information is called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehowlingfantods.com\/dfw\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Howling Fantods<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Not surprisingly, Gorey\u2019s tarot set is (a) not precisely a tarot set, (b) reflexively downbeat, (c) more like a <em>parody<\/em> of a tarot set, and (d) utterly hilarious.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dangerousminds.net\/comments\/edward_goreys_tarot_card_set\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">includes PICTURES and SHRIVELING<\/a><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>YES PLEASE: Since he supplied us with a visual vocabulary for cutesy dread over many decades, perhaps it comes as no surprise that Edward Gorey designed a set of whimsical tarot cards.
