This will be the Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time. The gospel reading is from Luke. Let\u2019s take a look.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-gospel-text-luke-21-5-19\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Gospel Text \u2013 <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/luke\/21?5\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Luke 21:5-19<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201c<em>While some people were speaking about how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings, Jesus said, \u201cAll that you see here\u2013 the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201d Then they asked him, \u201cTeacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen? \u201cHe answered, \u201cSee that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, \u2018I am he,\u2019 and \u2018The time has come.\u2019 Do not follow them! When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Then he said to them, \u201cNation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plague from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky. \u201cBefore all this happens, however, they will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name. It will lead to your giving testimony. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance, you will secure your lives.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-first-reading-malachi-3-19-20a\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">First Reading \u2013 <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/malachi\/3?19\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Malachi 3:19-20a<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This reading announces the Day of the Lord, consuming the wicked like stubble and healing the righteous under \u201cthe sun of justice.\u201d He judges the arrogant and wicked, and provides vindication and renewal for those who fear God.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-second-reading-2-thessalonians-3-7-12\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Second Reading \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/2thessalonians\/3?7\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">2 Thessalonians 3:7-12<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Paul warns against idleness and reminds believers to imitate his example of hard work. He insists that \u201cif anyone is unwilling to work, let him not eat.\u201d He preaches faithful living while awaiting Christ\u2019s return\u2014with discipline, responsibility, and integrity in daily life.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-gospel-reading-luke-21-5-19\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Gospel Reading \u2013 <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/luke\/21?5\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Luke 21:5-19<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5888\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5888\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5888\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/1770\/2025\/11\/small-vecteezy_congregation-singing-together-during-a-church-service_71886083_small-300x164.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5888\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Perseverance in living faithfully leads to salvation \u2013 image courtesy of Vecteezy.com.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jesus predicts the Temple\u2019s destruction, ending an era and foreshadowing divine judgment. The Romans fulfilled this prophecy historically in 70 A.D., when they destroyed Jerusalem. Jesus warns against false Christs and premature claims of the end of time. He further prophesies:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wars, earthquakes, and plagues that mirror apocalyptic imagery found in prophets like Joel and Isaiah. These events signal that creation itself participates in God\u2019s judgment.<\/li>\n<li>Persecution is not meaningless suffering but a refining fire that prepares believers for the coming kingdom.<\/li>\n<li>The promise that perseverance leads to salvation ties directly to the Day of the Lord as a moment of deliverance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"h-the-day-of-the-lord\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Day of the Lord<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Day of the Lord is not simply a distant event but begins with historical upheaval \u2013 like the fall of Jerusalem. It continues through the trials of discipleship and culminates in God\u2019s final judgment and redemption.
