alt=\"\" width=\"177\" height=\"183\"><\/a>At a press conference in Los Angeles, CA, La Virgen de Guadalupe, on the 480<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of her apparition in Mexico, suddenly appeared, held up on a crescent by a little cherubic angel.\u00a0\u00a0With brilliant effulgence surrounding her, she declared her independence from the Catholic Church specifically and from the Christian religion as a whole.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI belong to all humanity,\u201d she declared.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cNo exceptions!\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Virgin of Guadalupe explained that she appeared to the Indian peasant Juan Diego on December 9, 1531, on a hill near Mexico City where the Aztec goddess Tonantzin once had been worshipped.\u00a0\u00a0Mary, the mother of Jesus, appeared to Juan Diego as a dark-skinned young woman.\u00a0\u00a0Through her, the pre-conquest religion of Mexico was absorbed into Catholic Christianity.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve given hope to millions of oppressed Latin American Catholics,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cBut after almost 500 years of working for one branch of one religion, it\u2019s time for a change.So now\u00a0I\u2019m taking back the rights to my image, so that I can give those rights to all the people of the world.\u00a0\u00a0From now on, watch for my apparitions not only in Catholic churches, but also in Protestant congregations, <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Buddhist<\/a> and Hindu temples, and dangling from the rear-view mirrors of cars belonging to people of all cultures and colors!\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>When asked by reporters why she is making this announcement now, she replied:\u00a0\u00a0\u201cWhen my children suffer, so do I.\u00a0 When my children are oppressed, I\u2019m oppressed.\u00a0 I see how religion is being manipulated now to defend an economic and political system that is concentrating money and power into the hands of the few.\u00a0\u00a0I feel so sad for my people!\u00a0 Even before my apparition in Nazareth 2,011 years ago, I\u2019ve been standing up for the 99%.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As I said long ago, I say now, but with one change of wording:\u00a0\u00a0\u2018She has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; she has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich empty away.\u2019\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A massive crowd of people of every ethnicity and background gathered to witness her apparition at the press conference.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve come back to \u2018occupy\u2019 this city because it is a place where all my children meet \u2013 from the south, the north, the east, the west.\u00a0\u00a0To make my words in my Magnificat come true, my children must organize and protest and speak out and vote.\u00a0\u00a0Praying through me isn\u2019t enough!\u00a0\u00a0May my children reclaim the dignity they have lost.\u00a0\u00a0Hijos, hijas, don\u2019t worship wealth and power!\u00a0\u00a0Don\u2019t fall for the old lie that rich people\u2019s money will \u2018trickle down\u2019 to you!\u00a0\u00a0Don\u2019t listen to the \u2018prosperity gospel\u2019 that turns religion into greed!\u00a0\u00a0Don\u2019t bet your life that you\u2019ll win the lottery, or that you\u2019ll win on American Idol, or that you\u2019ll become a rich rap star or become a famous NBA player!\u00a0\u00a0Yes, do the best that you can in this world, but have respect for yourself just the way you are now, with whatever you have today.\u00a0\n<p>\u201cLike any mother, I have to lead by example.\u00a0 I have to stand up for myself in a new way, just like I want you to stand up for yourselves, my children.\u00a0\u00a0So goodbye patriarchy and oligarchy, goodbye corporate power and money power.\u00a0\u00a0Hello, people power!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>With those words, La Virgen evaporated into the air in a flash of light.\u00a0\u00a0Her image was seared into the clothing on everyone in the crowd.\u00a0\u00a0And below it was written her name, in the alphabet of the native language of the person wearing it:
