\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014-<\/span><\/p>\n

I was recently asked: \u201cIn this new world God is building, who\u2019s in charge?<\/strong><\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

To answer that, I need some audience participation. \u00a0I need help from a kid\u2026 You\u2026 Yes, you, can you come up here a minute?\u2026Hello, dear one, what\u2019s your name? \u2026 Hi Katie, thank you for helping me out with this\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

Okay, everybody look at Katie.\u00a0 Hear me loud and clear:\u00a0 The only way to even get started in my new world, you gotta be like Katie. You have go all the way back to kindergarten, start over, and never stop being a beginner.<\/p>\n

Ruling in my<\/span> kingdom means being a hospitable space for Katie to be Katie and for you to be you.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

But if instead you introduce Katie to the global Game of rivalry and hate<\/a>, it would better for you to sleep with the fishes in concrete shoes.<\/p>\n

Woe to the world for the games it wants to play with Katie!<\/li>\n
Woe to the advertisers who will teach her to despise herself so that she will buy their products!<\/li>\n
Woe to the politicians who will turn Katie into just another hate-cog for their political machines!<\/li>\n
Woe to those who will school Katie to be silent in the face of systemic theft, rape, and murder!<\/li>\n
Woe to the Joneses who will draw Katie into keeping up with them!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Woe to that sicko who lures Katie into The Game.<\/strong><\/p>\n
The Game ends with killing fields and gas chambers. Do whatever it takes to not go there.\u00a0 And if you go, don\u2019t you dare<\/span> take Katie with you.<\/p>\n
Kids and beginners, dropouts and failures, and all those at the bottom of the hierarchy\u2014they are not distractions from the mission; they are<\/span> the mission. \u00a0The Son of Man has come to find those who have fallen through the cracks. Think about it:\u00a0 If you have 100 sheep and lose one, you leave the 99 to find the one.\u00a0 My Dad will never give up on a single person.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t know the meaning of \u201clost cause.\u201d<\/p>\n
Can you imagine believing in your neighbors the way God believes in you?\u00a0 If your sister\u2019s behavior is wounding you in some way, talk it over with her.\u00a0 If she remains unwilling to respect your boundaries, bring one or two trustworthy friends into the conversation. Let the larger tribe be a part of the solution. If she keeps violating your boundaries anyway, take action to put some space between you and her, but never<\/span> give up on her.\u00a0 Keep yourself safe from abuse, but treat her like you treat Gentiles and tax collectors \u2014 with unrelenting kindness and grace.<\/p>\n
These little relationship decisions \u2014\u00a0they are the industrial earth-moving equipment that will shape and build the new heaven and earth. The spaces between you is where I live.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n
That\u2019s what I\u2019ve got to say today.\u00a0 There\u2019s some time left in my slot, so I\u2019d be happy to take questions and comments from the audience\u2026<\/p>\n
AUDIENCE MEMBER: \u201cThis hypothetical sister who is \u2018wounding\u2019 me\u2026 How many times am I required to forgive her before I am justified in washing my hands of her?\u00a0 Seven times?<\/em><\/p>\n
How\u2019s this:\u00a0 If you get to seven, stretch it out to 77.\u00a0 If that doesn\u2019t work, try 777.<\/p>\n
I once knew this guy named Joe. Joe was a gambler, and he owed Nicky-the-Squid $6 billion dollars, but Nicky forgives the debt: \u201cFuhgettabouddit<\/em>\u201d were his exact words. But then Joe goes and starts smacking around a guy who owes him<\/span> $10,000. Nicky finds out about this, ties Joe to a chair in his basement, and proceeds to get medieval on his ass.<\/p>\n
The question is not \u201cHow many times should I forgive?\u201d\u00a0 The question is \u201cAre you sure forgiveness is a thing \u00a0you want to\u00a0opt\u00a0out of?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
