\nI do not need to
\nhear politicians comparing those of us who oppose the war in Iraq
\nto the appeasers of Nazi Germany.\n<\/p>\n

\nI don\u2019t need a lot of help remembering 9\/11 since there are \n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \nAnd then there are the schools where my kids were that day, \n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \nWhen I go to church I see David, who got up from his desk at \n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \nIn the aftermath of 9\/11 and during the early days of the Iraq \n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \nI expect to tune out a lot of the major media hype in the \n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \nI did not vote for President Bush in 2000.\u00a0 <\/span>But I took some solace in his early talk of seeking I do not need to hear politicians comparing those of us who oppose the war in Iraq to the appeasers of Nazi Germany.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1176,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-165","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-c17-featured-writers"],"yoast_head":"\n
\nreminders all around me every day.\u00a0 <\/span>You
\nsee I live in the landing paths of Dulles airport where the plane that attacked
\nthe Pentagon took off.\u00a0 <\/span>Since I do most
\nof my flying out of Dulles, I routinely ponder that day five years ago just
\nabout every time I walk down the jet ways there.\n<\/p>\n
\nsurrounded by classmates whose parents worked at the Pentagon and who were
\npicked up by terrified parents during that Tuesday to wait at home to find out
\nwhat had happened to their fathers and mothers.\n<\/p>\n
\nthe Pentagon to buy a cup of coffee only to have the plane strike his office
\nand kill his co-workers while he was out.\u00a0
\n<\/span>And there is Bob, a federal agent, who assisted in the search for
\nbodies, and found David\u2019s ID tag in the rubble and told authorities that David
\nwas alive because he had seen him at church Wednesday after 9\/11.\n<\/p>\n
\nwar I spoke at many churches in the greater Washington
\narea on the ethics of the war and I met several people who lost co-workers and
\nfamily in the attacks here and in New York City
\nand I heard their stories.\n<\/p>\n
\nnext few days.\u00a0 <\/span>I don\u2019t need their
\nhelp.\u00a0 <\/span>But I especially do not need to
\nhear politicians comparing those of us who oppose the war in Iraq
\nto the appeasers of Nazi Germany.\u00a0 <\/span>As we
\nget closer to the midterm elections this reeks of the last desperate act of a
\nfailed presidency.\u00a0 <\/span>A majority of the
\ncountry now opposes the Iraq
\nwar.\u00a0 <\/span>Does this mean the president thinks
\na majority of us are the moral equivalent of Nazi appeasers?\u00a0 <\/span>His stubborn misguided insistence that
\nstaying the course in Iraq
\nis the right thing to do in light of the terrorist attacks of 9\/11 is a sham
\nand it insults the American people who know better.\n<\/p>\n
\nto be a uniter not a divider, and from his pledge to pursue a humble foreign
\npolicy and his desire to restore civility in Washington.\u00a0 <\/span>Back then I reminded a chapel full of
\nstudents at my school that it was and remains our duty to pray for him whether
\nwe voted for or against him.\u00a0 <\/span>While that
\nis still true that early promise seems so long ago and far away.\u00a0 <\/span>He had an opportunity to unite the country
\nbut chose to invade Iraq
\nallegedly to fight the terrorists of 9\/11.\u00a0
\n<\/span>On this anniversary please spare me the partisan political
\nspeeches.\u00a0 <\/span>May God have mercy.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
