\ncandidates should be concerned about their deteriorating base.\u00a0 Since
\nJanuary 2005,\u00a0Bush's approval rating\u00a0has dropped 15 points among white
\nevangelicals (72% to 57%).\u00a0 During that same period, Bush saw a similar
\ndrop among adults (50% to 37%).\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\nRecent polling by the Pew Research Center suggests a further weakening of GOP support among white evangelicals.\n<\/p>\n
\n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\nSince December 2004, the GOP favorability rating among white
\nevangelicals has deterioated more rapidly than within the wider
\npopulation.\u00a0 While the GOP favorability rating has declined by 12
\npoints among adults\u00a0from December 2004\u00a0to July 2006\u00a0(52% to 40%), it
\nhas fallen by 20 points among white evangelicals (74% to 54%).\n<\/p>\n
\n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\nAt the same time, fewer\u00a0white evangelicals believe that the\u00a0Republican
\nParty governs ethically, when compared to Democrats.\u00a0 While 55% of
\nwhite evangelicals\u00a0believed that the GOP governs ethically in January
\n2006, just 42% believe that in October 2006 \u2014 a 13-point
\ndecline.\u00a0\u00a0During that same period, that number dropped by only three
\npoints over that same period among adults.\n<\/p>\n

\nwhite evangelicals supported Republican Congressional candidates.\u00a0 In
\nOctober 2006, that number stands at only 57% \u2014 an 11-point decline.\n<\/p>\n
